congrats on the award OWL. these OTS ww1 tanks seem to do well in contests against more modern stuff. the figures look good.

i do the same thing with some builds and photos; a bit of grain, a slight blur, a grunt eye angle and it looks real. throw a little something like a subtle cloud in the "sky" behind the tank and you could fool a lot of folks.

Oh NICE! Looks like the elements are blending together really well now. You've certainly made the mud look real enough. :)  Excellent effects on that terrain, in general!

Gamera

Looks cool Owl, I still haven't moved much beyond the tank sitting a field looking pretty diorama, I'm going to have to try something more dramatic like this one day.

BTW: Are those German soldiers though? Their helmets and uniforms look French to me, are my eyeballs crooked?

yeah, they are french. I couldnt find any german figures! The uniforms look pretty similar to my untrained eye, so Im hoping a bit of paint will help the illusion Blind Fold

after some very helpful feed back from some of the club guys, Im adding a walkway to the trench area , along with a couple soldiers. The trench fortifications are scrap balsa wood we had laying around the art room, and the grass is bristles off a brush. The blasted-apart "tree" is a root a dug up in the back yard

I picked up some Pegasus WWI soldiers from the LHS, and am planning on positioning them so:

pretty dramatic, eh?

once everything firmed up, I applied a base coat to the dio base

my second little base got a base coat, too. Dunno what I will do with it just yet.

tank on a trench, not looking too bad?

That's looking nice, I like the sandbags. I still do that with Celluclay, I have been using it for years. Better to much than not enough.

I just might be making some more little bases, too, seeing as how much Ive enjoyed working on this one.

If you can see in teh back of this picture, Ive got a second base going on....that happened because I made way too much celluclay. Im still getting the hang of this, OK? Dunce

HA, my mom stopped by and what did she bring? A couple more plaques from hobby lobby! :)

meanwhile, I made sandbags from Sculpey.

(baked)

So here is the dio with the main parts in place; You have to wait a few days for everything to dry...

but the tank is officially DONE at this point!

the tracks have been painted and dirtied

then the hull got decals, gloss and a wash;

while that was setting I decided to craft a small base for my tank: the tank will be coming up an incline and over a trench. Here are preliminary sketches

painting the base, a cheap plaque from hobby lobby

blocking out the slope

Im letting everything dry and set before I glop on the celluclay

AT THE NEXT!! Pirate

Nice job Owl! I've read good reviews on the Masterbox British WWI tank kits, and you're doing your typical quality job here Yes
