Is this DML's first M60 (not M48)?  I really hope it is not a fustercluck like their black label kits.  I wonder how well it will compare to AFV Club's version.  It's nce to have a choice for such an esoteric subject!  There was a terrific article in an IPMS Journal that covered updating the old Tamiya kit, and it was so extensive that I gave up hope of having an accurate "Starship".

Yes, I've been eagerly waiting for this one to come out, but, I've also desided not to purchase any more models until I finish some of what I alread have. Maybe a later this  year purchase for me.

Edit: Dragon also has a M60 being released this month too: M60

Hello!

It might be just as well, that AFV Club releases the -A2... Or you can always try to mate the Dragn turret to the AFV Club chassis - it's very nice, so you would only have the turret to corect, should Dragon eFF up again... It's a shame what they did with the most Black label kits. But OK, let's give tham a chance, lookin' forward to see the reviews on the -A2.

Good luck with your builds and have a nice day

Based on their very nice Smart Kit M48 series, their M60 series should be pretty nice as well.  We shall see, but I am hopeful.

If you guys are looking for some reference as to cammo and equipment storage for the A2 in the field (Germany) I have a couple of pics from '77 and '78 on tanks that I served on (that's me with my *** in the mud LOL) that might help. Feel free to copy them or use them in any manner you desire, PM me or reply to this thread if you have more questions:

i have the Academy one and it looks fine. it has the old track. NO INTERIORyou will have to make the searchlight power cable if the searchlight is in the combat position. if you want the canvas cover you will have to scratchbuild one. i don't think we ever put it in the stowed position on the rear left side. mine (C-16) was painted in standard MERDOC 4 color winter green pattern (NATO green, brown, black and sand) and we blended the pattern to the roadwheels so some were green and some were brown. roadwheels were aluminum so the insides should be painted metallic gray to simulate the steel wear plates bolted on the inside of both inside and outside road wheel.

unit decals are wrong in the kit 3-32AR 3AD never had A2s, just 1-32AR and 3-33AR in 3AD.

i can't remember id we had the bore evacuator or not, i think we did. and we never called it Starship, never.Cool

Cool pics, Steve, and good info WayneC. It's great to know that we have at least two vets of these obscure vehicles here! I've been thinking of getting out my Tamiya re-release and giving it a go when I get back from Europe again.

biggest problem with the tamiya kit doesn't have the lower rear hull turret bulge under the grill doors to accomodate the CBSS compressors used to purge residue from the gun tube after a round is fired. a friend added one without much trouble/

the academy has the bulge but it it is missing the handles at the bottom of the grill doors.

I wouldn't say that is the biggest problem w/Tamiya's kit.  The biggest issue is the oversized turret.  It is about 1/8" too big in all directions.  Also, the hull sucks, the roadwheels are bad, the track is horrible, etc., etc., etc....

Why would anyone want to build the old Tamiya dog when there are much better options on the market (Academy) and on the horizon (Dragon and AFV Club)?

yes GRAF the only place you can stand in mud up to your ankles and have dust in your eyes. We shot illum for you in '77 on the platoon battle runs. that was one of those hot summere where the only illum we could fire was range 79, no more than 3 rounds, burn out 100 feet AGL.

GRAF was also the coldest i have been, 8 hours overnight on the top of a tank on range 35 in December.

i was playing with airbrushing dirt and some folks said it was overdone. from an artistic sense it was but those of us who have been to GRAF will recognize it. it really is a black and green camo pattern.
