A WIP Takom 1/35 scale Flak40 Zwilling

Can't believe nobody has responded to this. It's looking really good so far. How much more do you have to do?

  Thanks, I have to add the gun troughs, but they had horrible iejector pins in them so I ended up lining them with plastic. I ordered some brass 12.8Cm shells from Poland. When they come in, i will add the troughs and call it done.. I had originally wanted to built it on a flak tower till I realized at 1/35th scale, it would be taller than my wife!.. So i may just do the tower top, If i can convince myself to go through this 3 more timees.. It was a good kit, but it was a rough go..  thanks for the kind words..

Yes, some sort of base that suggests a flak tower. I've read very little about them except for Berlin. Weren't they located at the zoo among other places?

The Flak towers were designedt by Friederich Tamms under Hitlers express direction after a 1940 RAF bombing. There were towers in Berlin, Hamburg and Vienna. Most of them are still standing. I want to build a model of the Augarten Vienna Tower. It had 4 of these twin 128mm mounts and was ringed by 8 Flakvierling 20mm mounts.

WOW, can't believe i missed this and didn't even now a kit of it existed. It definatly needs the suggestion of the tower, but the full towqer top would be huge, but very impressive. Look forward to the end results.

 I have a set of German Artillerymen I intend to add. I intend to enter this in a contest as a set piece first, then i will add figures and make it a dio for a future contest.

Awesome model, great detail work! Very impressive, and a overlooked subject that is twice as cool to see.

This is the Augarten Vienna Tower. The towers were in pairs. One tower was the L tower which Send range finding and targeting data via electric cables to the nearby G Tower ( or gun tower)

Really a nice model and a nice presentation of it. My god, I can't believe that you're going to try to build one of those towers. I've been to that one you have shown in the photo, and it's absolutely massive. They tried to demolish them after the war and simply couldn't do it. I can't beleive you're going to actually attempt to build it in scale. I think that even a much smaller, fragmented piece of it would be smarter, modeling-wise, as the sheer scale of the whole piece as you're trying to do it will certainly detract from the guns themselves.

Thanks to all for the kind words. I have been wanting to build this tower since discovering it existed in Medal of Honor Airborne all those years ago! I realized early on that I would not be able to model the entire tower as at 54 M tall and 43M across , it would be over 5'5" tall and just over 4' across. So.. I am modeling a 1/4 section of it. I believe that if I can manage to get the edges to a perfect 90 degrees, that Front surface mirrors should help create the illusion of the full rooftop. I'll be posting progress pics in the Diorama forum.

     On a personal note, Karl  Logan, I have greatly admired your fantastic work in FSM over the years. Guys like you, Bob Letterman, the late greats Shep Paine, and recently (sadly) Dan Jayne , provide the inspiration for me to attempt this project. You guys are in a class all to yourselves. Thanks for the encouragement and I would welcome any criticisms you might have. regards, Claude
