So I pained one run with Vallejo track primer and they look great but but it rubs off pretty easily. Maybe I should coat the paint with matt resin?

Did you prime the tracks before applying the Vallejo track primer?  Vallejo is extremely fragile unless it has a good primer coat underneath.

Peace through superior firepower.

I like to basecoat in a Rustoleum dark brown color from their "Camouflage" line. Using washes and a sponge spotting of various acrylic rust shades lends an accurate appearence.

I drybrush the high spots with MM Enamel "Jet Exhaust" or MM Metalizer "Dark Anodonic Gray". Sometimes I use both. I will always use the Anodonic Gray for the highest spots. It looks like polished steel.

Thanks guys. I'm not looking for a rusty look.  I've read a bunch of places that German tracks didn't rust all that much anyway.  This will be a pretty weathered tank though.  I'm shooting for early Barbarossa look when one of these tiny tanks still was used as a scout vehicle.  I like the color of the vellejo track primer.  Combined with oil wash it ends up looking better than mixing black and brown etc.  It's a dark reddish blown black. Hard to describe.

anyway I'll try drybrushing and oil washes.  for my panzer II maybe I'll use a blackening agent and do the links separately to get a uniform color.   I'm working my way from the earliest to final German armor of wwII.

I do airbrush, oil washes.

Watch out Chris, the "tracks don't rust" group has been sighted at their assembly points...

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Are you looking to use a rust type heavily used look, or newer with a gray colour, or a somewhat dusty look? Try using a gray, or black, the DRY brush over it with a little rust, or the colour of your choice.

Maybe a picture of a squirrel playing a harmonica will make you feel better?

All, I just completed my first set of Fruil tracks for a Panzer I, Ausf. B.  These tracks are tiny (7mm wide) and were a bit tricky to assemble, but they look amazing compared to the Magic Tracks that came with the Dragon kit.  Way easier to actually put on the model too.

My question is how best to paint/weather them.  I've seem products such as Blacken It that you can soak the tracks in but I worry that it'll eat into the tiny wires that act as track pins or the CA glue that holds them in.

So I pained one run with Vallejo track primer and they look great but but it rubs off pretty easily. Maybe I should coat the paint with matt resin?  Maybe I should have gotten one of the products for weathering metal tracks?

Any suggestions are appreciated!
