This model represents the prototype vehicle, which was equipped with the Feifel air cleaners, early road wheels and tracks, large idlers, 50mm bolt-on armor on nose, early barrel sheath, early driver's visor, no barrel lugs or counterweight, 20 gas openings on barrel, S-mine dischargers and originally, a mild-steel superstructure.

This vehicle, along with the first three production vehicles, were sent to Warsaw on August 15th, 1944 for combat trials in the newly formed Heeres-Panzersturmmoerser kompany 1000. On August 28th the prototype was withdrawn to Alkett-Werke Berlin for replacement of the superstructure and the road wheels were changed to late-model steel-rimmed wheels. The photos I have seen of this vehicle do not show Zimmerit present.

It appears to be the same vehicle as seen in this well known footage from Warsaw, although the Feifels seem to be either damaged or partially removed;

O ye, i forgot about the 251 . I'll be watching to see what you do with that.

LOL Thanks Bish. The only 1/35 armor I have at the moment is a Japanese Type 1 self propeled gun and the 251. Buy the way, I will be scratching some interior for the 251 since it is so sparce.

The zim is right, most of them had it because the vehicles they were converted from had it. But i have never seen a Tiger with both and never seen a Strumtiger with the filters. I believe the prototype, which was later used in warsaw, was converted in late 1943, so its possable that single vehicle had the filters.

But who knows, it certaily should not detract from your build. I hope we will be seeing you add some 35th armour soon.

Yes, the stamp inside the hull piece said "Tiger 1 early" and there were extra pieces that I assume are for the early production model (which I also have in my stash), and of course I have no idea about the air filters LOL.
The Sturmtiger and Brumbar were fascinating to me as a kid. I was amazed that they shot such large shell and had no idea the ammo was rocket assisted.

 

Ye, i had a look and Trump do both an early and late Strumtiger, but there were only 18 and they were converted from later vehicles. The filters were originally fitted to the vehicles sent top Africa and their use stop in Oct 43, about the same time Zimmerite was introduced.

It is an amazing piece of kit, there is one claim that a single round destroyed 3 Sherman tanks. But their use was of course very limited.

Thats impresive, even more so for someone who doesn't build armour. And adding your own Zimm in this scale must have been tricky.
