Starting M60A3 MBT AFV Model

A couple of us spent some quality time on A3s. I was a platoon leader of 2nd platoon, A Company, 5/77 Armor in Mannheim, Germany back in the day. I became the company XO when we transitioned to the early M1A1s in 1989.

Well, if you want a starship you have to do the -A2... Nah, just kidding!

Do you have any photos of the real thing?

So you have the one from AFV Club, right? That's a beauty of a kit, if a little complicated...

Now if you ask some more specific questions like how to do scratches like those? Or how do I make this part look dusty - I think I and other people can give you pointers.

I've been trying to expand on the interior AFV Club gives us - but the project got stuck for now - but I hope some fine day I will have that interior for a Patton...

Thanks, Pawel, I am sure I will have some questions when I get it going soon!

I looked at your work and it is amazing.  I am new to the weathering effects, so I will be asking about that for sure after I get some things rolling. I LOVE the detail of the armor on the tank with the rough texture on the exterior.  I also went all out and got third-party tracks for it.  Looks like they will take me a month to paint, put together, and weather then as well!  

As for the starship, I am currently working on the last stages of the TOS 1/350 enterprise, have started the base painting for the 1701 refit, have the Greased Lightning body to finish for my daughter and a jeep to finish up for the wife.  Today I am finishing the electronics for my son's Iron Man figure (The first large size figure I have EVER done), and hopefully doing the gold coat on him.

The weather is finally cooperating with the temps so I can get back on my airbrushing...so I am full steam ahead!

Well, I am definitely interested in the skills of adding scratches, wear, mud, weather effects, ect., but I suppose it will be a good thing to ask them in time when I get to those spots in the build.  I appreciate the offer of info, and I will definitely take advantage of it...soon!

Also, one more thing, what image service do you use to have links to post pics with?

I apparently need that to share pics on the site...I suppose I could use dropbox, but I am looking for a more specific solution.

I use Flickr to host my photos. Here is a post I made late last night for someone else who was looking to build an M60A3TTS.

You can also link from your Facebook photos on your page, as these are. All photos are of the same tank at different points in time.

I strongly recommend visiting www.AndysHobbyHeadquarters.com and check out his videos of building US armor.  He will show you how to achieve exactly that which you want to learn.  It is a free site, and I have learned a lot by watching.  Good luck!
