When I was able to turn off the football and get off the couch,I got some work done.Lower hull and roadwheels are all assembled, and got going on the upper hull.I tend to jump around,I will probably assemble some of the tracks next.

I broke out the tracks and started to assemble a few, check out the size of the resin pins, but actually they are going together okay.

I have this one in my stash also, so I'll be interested in how you will weather it. Will be watching closely. Also have the King Tiger, thought they would look good next to each other. Might need to add the Pershing also. Good luck, thanks for sharing.

Be careful of what you ask for, you just might get it.

I thoroughly enjoyed building that kit a couple of years ago, well-engineered and stuff fits too. I used Spade-Ace tracks, not bad even with every other link being two pieces. Those itty bitty resin pics look intimidating.

A note on the real thing, Anthony: the big ugly texturing marks that "look" like big ugly welds on the turret and hull are actually where big ugly chunks of flash from the big ugly molds were trimmed off, using what I would image would have a big ugly torch.

"Big Ugly".....  there, I had to type it again. Big Smile

That is looking great!  Are you going to do a Battle of Berlin paint scheme?  I've also seen photos of these tanks with bed springs welded on to their sides to deter attack from panzerfausts.  Good luck with the rest of the build.

Thanks, I have done a T-34 with the bedspring, but not this one, will just have the white ID stripes hand painted.

As I remember the shells of the 122mm gun on that thing were so big they came in two parts- the shell and the propellent charge. So loading the thing was really slow and it could only carry a small amount of ammo. Plus the gun wasn't all that accurate.

But anything it hit would be pulverized.

That is looking very good!  I like the look of the hand brushed white stripes and the faint whitewash look.  Tracks are looking good too.

Super nice work. I love the hand painted stripes, just like all the photos from the war I've seen. The Russians were not too concerned with looks when they were fighting for their very existence.

The rough look of those stripes looks great. Just curious, were the white id stripes just for the invasion of Germany, or did the Russian's also use them earlier on in the war?

Thanks

You got me,I always associated them with the Berlin Offensive which started 4/15/45,but I'm not sure.

They did use them during the cold War in the 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia, and interestingly right now they are painting invasion stripes on vehicles at te Ukrainian border according to reports.

Well, the vehicle is pretty much done, just need to decide about the hatches.I got this resin street base for it,I plan to add the figures on and around the tank in a simple scene.

Oh that looks sharp Tojo!

And a few washes and some dry-brushing and that base will really 'pop'!
