Bridgecon 2004 win!!!
Posted by M1abramsRules on Sunday, May 9, 2004 12:27 AM
well, I went to my first contest today in Saskatoon.
all my models were entered into General (3 categories: junior, general, advanced) and my Audie Murphy M10 took the only gold ribbon in the category!!! although even with the only gold medal in the category, another model took the best of in that category, oh well...... no big deal, I was only in it to have fun!! my 1/72 M3 Lee also didn't do too bad as it got a silver.

took a bronze with my last model a fokker D VII, but I don't figure you guys care much about that, since its an aircraft, huh??? Wink [;)]Big Smile [:D]

didn't do too bad in the draws either!!! after the draws and some trades/sell were done, I walked out with

50 bucks
Tamiya SAS jeep
Trumpeter Chinese type 89 rocket launcher.

saw 2 forum members ther, Murray Kish and Ray (heylonghair). unfortunately I didn't get a picture to post for people to chop Wink [;)]

on another note, this contest completed my first year as a "scale modeler". every year we go to the city to garage sale one saturday (today thats where the family went), last year on that day, I picked up my first copy of FSM, and 2 weeks before, I had found out about a LHS in my area (I hadn't known there were hobby shops anywhere close to me). before this time last year, I had done about 6 models spread over my childhood and last year is when I really started modeling seriously (ok, ok, I'll rephrase that: lots, as in my "main hobby")

a half month later I joined this forum and you guys have been a real help to over the last year!!! THANKS!!!

(also joined the local IPMS club today)

wow, today has been a huge day in my modeling history!!!

Way to go Chris.

Sounds like you had a very enjoyable day with the Saskatoon boys.

Better get Lawrence to build a bigger trophy case, the gang here at the forums are doing very well wherever they go.
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Congrats! There seems to be more than one winner in this forum doesn't there ! And there will be more . A gold is pretty darn good however considering the fine competition at those shows . Once again congrats.Cool [8D]Big Smile [:D]

Good job Chris,
Glad to hear your Audie Murphy won a Gold it did better than mine. Back in April I entered my Audie Murphy M10 and walked away with a silver. I will get some pictures post of it, I promise, but since I don't own digital I have to rely on the kindness of others to take my pictures.
Trevor Where am I going and why am I in this handbasket?

Hey!

You beat me to it! I was hoping to post a congrat's message here, but looks like the word is already out. I was fortunate enough to have a good look at Chris's M10 and am glad to see he got a Gold. There are always a 'few' models at a show or contest that people talk about.... "did you see that so-and-so over there?". There were some really impressive armour pieces at the contest and Chris's was one of the 'talked-about' displays. Well deserved recognition for something that he clearly put some effort and time into.

Chris, I'm glad you had "fun" at your first contest. Your enthusiasm for the hobby and history is impressive. Stay with that perspective and you'll have many more years of enjoyment of the hobby (and the company!). Hopefully you had a good chance to chat with some other builders and glean a few tips and tricks here and there.

Oh, and if anyone's interested, I got a silver for my M4 from the sherman group build, a bronze for my little 1:43 Ford Focus, and a bronze for my 1:72 CF-5 Agressor! I also have a bunch of pictures that I'll try to get up on the web as soon as possible!

the way the awards work is, they judge every model and rate it (5 judges rate it 1-4) when their done, they tally their results and based on how many points the model recieved it is awarded either nothing, bronze, silver, or gold. I had the only gold in general, and I didn't see too many in advanced, maybe 5 or 6, not sure maybe murray knows. so a gold is hard to come by, thats for sure!!!

Thanks guys. Sorry to hi-jack your thread, Chris!! The more important thing to me was being able to spend a day and a half with a bunch of other guys that enjoy the hobby as much as me. I honestly was surprised at how well my kits did. The caliber just keeps going up every year, and Chris is definitely right.... A Gold is very tough to come by.

Congrat's again Chris!
