How Good (Or Bad) is the Italeri Elefant????
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, October 28, 2004 2:45 PM
So, how bad is this kit? Should I scrap it and buy the DML version? I bought this kit several years ago and am contemplating buying the AM stuff for it. Is this kit accurate? Keep in mind I am getting am tracks and Aber PE (Both detail and fenders) and an Aber barrel.

Thanks in advance.

As a build it is not bad for it's age, but it does suffer innaccuracies and is a little basic in detail. The superstructure hatches are incorrectly sited and wrong shape, the tracks need every second guidehorn removed, etc.

I compared my 20 year old build to a friends new DML offer, built OOB, at a club display last year. To the casusal eye, people could not see the differences until pointed out (although I had cut off the guidehorns). Depends on how much you want an accurate model - if just for fun, go with what you have.

For an older kit , it's not bad. I have built it , straight out of the box , and I was satisfied with the results . However , there is room for improvement, typhical , of many older kits. Don't scrap it ! Build it and have fun!

I've got the Dragon kit and it looks impressive. Lots of parts. I hear the indy tracks are incorrect. You can substitute Jaguar tracks for it.

I had to go check my stashed builds, I thought I had built that kit back some years ago? I found it and it doesn't look like a bad build. I guess I should go back and finish it though. I would say build it. Mines strictly out of the box but I like it. Semper Fi, mike

This will be a good one for me to practice my Zim on. It's been a long time sice I have done any and I need to follow old Mo's class on zim. Or as I like to refer to him: the Zim Master, or the ZimsaiBig Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

As per the comments above, it will build into a good model. Definitely has issues, but if you're allready planing on getting all the AM parts for it, just go ahead, and at least save yourself the money of buying a new kit.
