Hi, wbill76: Are you ready to get you one of the new Trumpeter Morser Karls to add to the line up? I think your K5 looks kind of lonely up there on top. Ha, ha!

Take care, Sgirty

Sgirty, Armdogdoc, thanks for the kind words. Building one was enough, I don't think I could handle building the whole series...1/35 is enough of a challenge, never mind a whole bunch of 1/16 monsters rattling around. Big Smile [:D]

Hi, wbill76: Great job there. Looks really, really good. Once you competed one of these things you know you've definitely done something out of the ordinary in military modeling. Like that shade of green too.

Also really nice web site. Going to have to check it out again. Keep up the good work.

Take care, Sgirty

Matt,

I worked on the T-34 on Sundays only and really enjoyed stretching it out while I worked on other projects. It made for a nice little mini-build with the different sub-assemblies. As for paint, it wasn't nearly the paint hog I expected it would be. Didn't even use a full bottle of MM enamel Russian Armor Green and only about half a bottle of MM Light Gray on the interior. It doesn't have all the nooks and crannies like the Leopold so I think that explains it.

Buff, Zok, J-Hulk,

Thanks as always for the kind words!

Nicely done! As you said, it is a shame that more of the interior cannot be shown off. I'm in a similar dilemma with a separate model. I think I will open up all access panels, and make panels where originally there are none, simply to show off the interior.

another great model Bill. I think the reason it took 3 months is because you knocked out about 3 other kits (that I saw) in the same time! I remember on the rail gun you mentioned how much paint it used, how about this one?

That looks awesome. I'm going to have to make a real effort to get that kit in my stash someday.

Rebel,

Here's an idea for scale...it sit's on my computer desk because it's so big! Dimensions are roughly 8" tall, 18" long, 8" wide.

Well, you're one up on me.Smile [:)] I saw the Russian Armor Green on MM's color chart and figured thats what I would use, just wanted some confirmation.

Pmm736,

Unfortunately because this monster is so big, it's impossible for me to take good shots with my usual studio arrangements. As a result, it gets a mix of sunlight from the window and the gooseneck lamps and the end result ends up "bluer" than it ought to be. The actual finish is a basecoat of MM enamel Russian Armor Green with MMP Camo Green applied to provide a worn/dusty overall look. "Russian" green is almost as dubious a color as OD green...so many different possible shades depending on time-period, field conditions, etc. that it's one of those endless debate type of things. This is my first attempt at Russian armor, so I'm hardly an expert on it. Tongue [:P] While a little blurry, this shot shows the true color better. Always an adventure trying to show RL online via photography.

Gdarwin,

The M10 "Duckbill" is called that because of the oversize counterweights fitted to the back of the turret. Other versions of the M10 had the normal size counterweights and didn't get the "duckbill" designation.

Dwight, Nmayhew,

Thanks for the kind words as always!

Eric,

This kit built very smoothly, a real surprise considering all the interior work that gets done before the hull is secured. Ended up using CA to secure the hull halves but that was just to insure an all-around even fit more than anything. It's the only Trumpeter kit I've ever built, but it was a very positive experience all around.

Bill, excellent job. Just a question on the color. It seems (to me anyway) to look a little on the aqua side. Is that a camera/lighting thing(or maybe my monitor)? I'm doing a T-34 for the 1/35 in 24, but have never done Russian armor before. What brand and color paint did you use? Thanks for any info, Pete

Man another finished kit. I'll be lucky to get my third done before the end of the year. I think you've done that in the past month. Well, I did see some of the interior shots in the Group Build and there was some amazing work in that thread. How did this big boy go together? I wasn't thrilled with my only experience with Trumpeter.

Posted this in the GB thread and reposted here for more to see.

Antenna and tieropes on the tow cables were scratchbuilt, everything else is straight OOB. I know the GB runs until March but I decided to go ahead an knock this one out. Even so, it still took me the better part of 3 months to get it completed. It's a great kit with very few problems and those are easily corrected. Sadly, I wish there were more ways to show off the great detail on the interior other than the usual maintenance diorama scenes but you can't have everything I guess.
