Bradley help..
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 10:26 AM
Eyup all..

Does anyone know where I can find some pics of the (first) Gulf War M2A2's? I can´t seem to find any detailed pics showing tread and paint wear.

And another thing.. What colour were they under the desert yellow? I only yesterday got a hold of the june edition of FSM and I´m anxious to try and use the salt weathering thinggie. If anyone has any suggestions about said technique, please enlighten me.

Thanks a million!

The Bradleys that went, if not delivered in sand yellow, were painted with the standard 3 color red brown black camo. The paint that was oversprayed is a lot tougher than the whitewash that world war two tanks wore, so i don't know how badly the paint would be damaged.

If I ever get a free minute from work I could get pics of some bradleys, but for me to get a free min. as a specialist in the army is like an act of god?

All the M2A2s used in the first Gulf War were the standard NATO 3-color green, black, brown and then over painted desert sand. The CARC paint the vehicles were originally manufactured with did not hold the sand over paint very well and large chunks of paint would come off showing the green underneath. Places that got handled or tread upon often showed the most amount of wear.

Ehmm.. Hang on a sec.. So the Bradleys shed their sandy skin to show specks of camo, then down to the olivey-green undercoat, then metal?

Newer Bradleys like the M2A2ODS (Operation Desert Storm modified) and the M2A3 are now being delivered in desert sand (yellowish), but prior to Desert Storm, the M2A2s were mainly stationed in Germany and painted in the standard NATO 3-color. The ones that deployed to the Gulf were hastily repainted sand.

Many of the US based Bradleys were the older M2 and M2A1 variety. These were in a variety of paint schemes, but mainly brown and black over forest green. These too were repainted in desert sand. The sand color varied from the yellow sand to a grey sand to even a pinkish sand (some Fort Hood vehicles).
