I like the sound of your theory. I'm going to try it both ways. I think if I can get the color opaque enough without too much paint it might be pliable. If not I'll try your other suggestion and mark it, form it, glue etc, then go back and paint.
When I get to it, I'll be sure to let y'all know.

Just be advised that you probably will have to do some touch up at the end. The wrapping-grade tissue may not hold the paint when flexed, and it could flake off a bit.

Another thing I thought of was to draw the circle and the Iwastika as above, but then glue it down and let dry before painting. That way you only have to paint the areas which are exposed. I dunno which way I'd try this myself, though. As I said, i haven't actually done one of these yet, this is all theory!

Anyhoo, try it on something "scrap" first and see how it works. Good luck!

You may find soaking tissue in white glue/water mix before painting works a little better. Of course you have to decide on your shape first as it won't bend much after the glue treatment.

I'm going to try that Blackwolf. I think you could spray the flag and it still be flexible to arrange as wanted on the model. Then coat with a white glue/water mix to hold it's shape.

Hmmm, I think I even have some tissue lying about....

I've had an Idea along these lines for a while now, just haven't tried it out yet. Goes like this:

Cut out a panel of tissue (gift-wrapping tissue, not kleenex) the size of a "scale" flag and draw the circle & swastika with heavy pencil or thin-line marker.

Paint the colors as needed. Spray it red, then mask the circle (with a template) and then brush paint the swastika using a straight edge as a guide. Paint the bottom black to add an automatic bit of depth and shadow.

Glue it down, folded or draped as desired and let dry.

Touch-up as needed.

Whats a Svastika? LOL just kidding my spelling can be bad too.

Are you talking about the nazi flag used as recognition aid during WWII? in 'normal' modeling scales, ie 1/35 to 1/76, ctioth would be way too overscale. Try some fairly thick aluminium foil (or similar, like what covers the containers of margerine or yogurth, or the foil around the nice wine bottles (an excuse to have a drink!), cut to shape, place on the model and paint. The Svastika could be done with a decal, if your flag is fairly flat. Another way to do it is to roll out some epoxy putty (like Milliput). Use baby powder on the milliput and tthe rolling pin (a pen for instance) to get really thin sheets. Cut into shape, plce over the model and let dry. If your model has been slightly dusted with baby powder, the hardened miliput will come off easily and you can then paint/decal... Easy.
