Ok, I know this is a really stupid question and I probably know the answer already but What color would you paint a Hedghog Tank Obstacle, with out the rust?

Mmmm... That's a good question! I do not have the definitive answer, but given the fact that they were built 'on the field' out of anti-tank bits found on the beaches, I would have thought Olive Drab to be out of the question. Probably left in their original colours, whathever the German and slave-workers had upon their hands... With so much exposure to salty water, I'd expect them to be very rusty indeed (even if they had been painted with anti-rust types of paints). The blowtorch cuts made by allied crews would have left some metal very fresh and shiny looking too.

Sounds good and I'm sure there were plenty of rusty headgehogs around.... But don't forget that the US Army is a bit crazy at times about camo and it wasn't unheard of for a unit to paint tanks in the field after just a quick wash during WWII (bare metal and glossy paint around edges of a vehicle could be a 'dead' give away, even in the shade!). That means the hedgehog's rust, left over dirt anywhere on the vehicle, straps and anything else that wasn't removed would be painted (I'd imagine the painters would even oblige a lazy crew by painting personal equipment left on the tank also.. remember, these are GI's!). Talk about an invitation for peeling paint and interesting weathering!!
