Sounds good and I'm sure there were plenty of rusty headgehogs around.... But don't forget that the US Army is a bit crazy at times about camo and it wasn't unheard of for a unit to paint tanks in the field after just a quick wash during WWII (bare metal and glossy paint around edges of a vehicle could be a 'dead' give away, even in the shade!). That means the hedgehog's rust, left over dirt anywhere on the vehicle, straps and anything else that wasn't removed would be painted (I'd imagine the painters would even oblige a lazy crew by painting personal equipment left on the tank also.. remember, these are GI's!). Talk about an invitation for peeling paint and interesting weathering!!
