I recently finished the RoG Fuchs and while it does have some problems, it builds into a nice vehicle. I had problems with the soft plastic (it's easy to sand away fine detail) and the level of detail could be improved (a p/e set is a must). The detail on the suspension is generally good, but RoG left a lot to be desired with the soft detail on hull. I recommend replacing the kit supplied shovels, but the other tools are good. The kit provides several options for decals and they are very nice looking. OOTB, this kit looks good, but it could benefit from a p/e set and resin wheels. My wheels were cracking before I put them on the vehicle. Something for me to remember when I build another one.

Thank you all for your replies! It seems there may be more kits out there than I thought. I never get to see kits from AFV, Academy and Trumpeter because my local hobby store only stocks vanilla topics from Tamiya, AMT/Ertl and Revell/Monogram USA. Now with some manufacturer names I can do some more digging on the 'net. Many, many thanks!!

Keep the replies coming if anyone else wants to weigh in on this!

I've some picture on ronUSMC's webpage that might help you out on the artillery tracks, and if you check around on here you'll find a few ideas for making your own cat, ( ammo carrier that complements the paladin)
but for the cat , if you get a paladin or almost any older SP howitzer kit, you can convert it to a few different vehicles that you want.

may the glue be with you!

The M93A1 Fox is kitted by Revell of Germany. I have no Fox experience, but their version supposedly makes into the W. German Fuchs variant and US NBC Fox variant. I have one, but do not know how accurate it is. It is kit #3038 and called the TPz 1 Fuchs A6 ABC. They also make the non-US (non-chem) variant as well.

The AAV7A1 is kicking around in a couple of boxings by Tamiya, Academy and Trumpeter. Don't know how much work it would take to make an Iraq War variant.

Don't forget to pass kudos on to AFV Club for their M548 Ammo Carrier, M35A2 Deuce and a half, and the M88A1 Medium Recovery Vehicle and a few other support vehicles as well. I have all three kits and highly recommend them. (BTW even though all three vehicles have been replaced by newer variants, they are still everywhere). The M88A1 is a superb kit, they also make a Vietnam era M88 and Revell of Germany boxes one with German specific fittings.

Academy also still sends out rumors of the long promised M728 Combat Engineer Vehicle (CEV-my old ride).

There. That should be enough to keep you busy without having to mention the Hobby Fan conversions for the HEMTT and 900 series 5 ton trucks.

Hopefully, Trumeter will come to your rescue. They already have a number of modern Chinese support vehicles in their catalogue, but I'm certain that they will release other stuff in the near future.

If not, why don't you try smaller scales? 1/72 and 1/76 have so much to offer!

Looking for affordable modern support vehicles!!

I have been a modeler for over 25 years but only recently have I become interested in armor and ground topics. My usual fare is modern jet aircraft and science-fiction. My observation of the armor scene is that it is vastly dominated by WWII kits. I appreciate the historical relevance of these older subjects but my tastes run almost exclusively to the modern. Now, I know there are plenty of modern armor kits out there (probably a dozen or more versions of the Abrams) but tanks and APCs only take me so far. What I REALLY want to build are modern military support vehicles. I have had a devil of a time finding any affordable kits of these topics!! Kudos to Italeri for offering their M-977 Oshkosh 8-wheeler kits and their M-923 Big Foot truck. I've also been able to find several versions of the Hummer but that is where the selection runs dry. I should also mention that Scotland's Accurate Armor has created two masterpieces; their Faun 'Elefant' tank transporter and their M1000 Oshkosh Heavy Equipment Transporter. If you haven't seen them please check out the pictures on AA's website. However, at nearly $400.00 EACH, it will be a very long time before I can afford to buy even one of them.

What I am desperate to find are *affordable* kits of some of the following *modern* subjects: U.S. Marines Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC), U.S. Marines modern Amtrak APC AAV7A1 (used in Iraq), M1 Grizzly, D7G bulldozer, M104 Wolverine, M992A2 FASV, ATEC All Terrain Crane, and M93A1 Fox as well as new versions of the previously mentioned Faun Elefant and M1000. Admittedly, some of these kits like the LCAC would be HUGE and expensive to produce but could still probably be offered for well below Accurate Armor's high price range. Before anyone suggests converting existing kits to these subjects or scratchbuilding please note that I have two children under the age of 5. I'm not interested in heavily modifying an inadequate existing kit and working on it for 2 years.

So..... does anyone out there know if kits like these exist for those of us who have little money and little time? Thanks in advance for your attention.
