ARRGH.....sez I......ARRGH

Just got this months issue of FSM and as I am devoring the mag on a first read, what do I see? An article on the M3 75MM GMC.

Why am I out of joint on this, you may ask? Because, I've been planning on doing 2 conversions of the Tamiya's M3 on this particular subject for a couple of years. Collected manuels and all sorts of printed material(even strated on the correction of the drive and ideller wheels)...... Ahhh, well - such is the hobby.

One of the conversions was going to use an ex-Toms Model Works French 1895 75MM gun with everything else scratched built and the other was going to use the resin conversion from Warriors (VLS).

I stopped because I was have a heck of a time recasting Tamiyas
sprockets for corrective surgery. Some day, I suppose.....some dayBig Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

definition of Scratch Build - a project that you start and have 3/4 complete when a major model company will announce the pending release of the aforementioned vehicle.

Yes, I was one minor aftermarket part away from collecting up everything needed to build an accurate Tamiya M41 Walker Bulldog (about $80-90 total). All I needed was the Tank Workshop mantlet and mufflers. Of course, after I get these items, both Skybow and AFV CLub issue great Bulldog kits!

To carry on the curse, I see the Skybow kit but pass it up since I was out of town and didn't want to keep up with the kit during my travels. Bad move, only time I ever saw the kit on the shelf and now Skybow went out of business. I can't win.

Yes, such is the nature of scratchbuilt projects. I'm 75% complete with my scratchbuilt AH-1F conversion for Revell's 1/32 Cobra. I'm anticipating the kit announcement any second.
Same thing happened with my kitbashed 1/35th UH-1H. I was halfway done and Panda popped their kit on us...

I was thinking about converting my M113 to a 548 after I finish this project. I know the kit's available, but I wanted to try my hand at it, since we've got a functional one out at the Texas Air Museum and I can add lots of scratchbuilt detail. Plus, its lots of fun to drive!

Sounds like it would be a captured allied with german field modification - ammo supply ya know.

At some point I would like to do a before and after of a captured M8 that I saw pictures of..

Jeeze guys, thanks. I feel much better now that I know I am not the only one

The Germans used captured British Universal Carriers for this Abrams. I have no pics of this particular conversion but I would imagine they were a field modification so just about anything goes. I seem to remember seeing them mounted on the forward engine bulkhead though ?????
Check out AFV Interiors for references of the Universal Carrier.
Here's their NEW link.

If you can't find anything there let me know, I may have some references for the Carrier.

nope nothing there, great site though! would it have been green with german markings, if sso what kind of markings. seeing as it will be a british vehicle when I buy it, and I don't have much in the way of spare decals. I think I'll make it british. I would go to Prince Albert today, and buy it, but its a holiday. Sad [:(] as shermanfreak well knows, right?

Yes, it was the Bulldog, but someone on Armorama was selling one. I got it for $25+4 s/h. Should be here in a week. The only other one I had a line on was one on Ebay from Hong Kong for $20+10 s/h.
