Question about tank tracks....
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, October 6, 2003 9:14 PM
Hi everyone,
Im almost finished with a Tamiya M5A1. Its only my second armored subject ever. I have a silly question about the rubber one piece tracks that come with the kit. In the instructions, it shows how to connect the track using the pins and the tab, then melting the pins with a hot scewdriver. Im just wondering, would super glue work as well? (Im trying to impress my wife by asking this question BEFORE I burn the house down trying to heat up the screwdriver)Approve [^]

Yes it should work ..... if it doesn't ... burning the house down is an option.

I usually don't melt the tracks together as shown. I use a good super glue (Loctite, Zap-A-Gap) and hold them together with a small spring-type clamp.

Use the heat method, but don't touch the vinyl with the heated object. Keep it just close enough to begin to "mushroom" the pins. If you are brave, lick the tip of your finger and press against the pins. If not, use an object like the head of a nail or the end of the X-acto knife handle to flatten the mushroom.

Use something like a tea candle as your heat source.

I have tried super glue once and it worked just fine. Recent releases of Tamiya actually comes with glueable tracks.
