I am completely new to this world of modelling, and it fascinates me!  My better half has introduced me to it, and I must admit, the first little while, I was very 'ho-hum' about the whole thing.

But then I found out about diorams, and man oh man...are they ever cool!  The idea of telling a story with a scene is great...like yours.

Congrats bud...you've given me so many ideas, my head is spinning!

See, that comes from the whole not having watched anime since speed racer.  IF ya check out something like Macross Zero (one of my favorites) or Ms Gundam Igloo (3D, another favorite) its quite diffrent then 'Look out speed!'

But all you old timers are the same, oh I dont like all that robot stuff.  What are ya, to suck up to like giant killing machines that have machineguns that shoot 120mm shells?

Congrats on the article in FSM. I let my subscription lapse as I don't have much interest in military models, but bought a copy for your article. I like your attention to detail, like the two angles of rust streaking on the fallen-off door...showing that it became unhinged slowly.

I noticed that you bought your leaves from Joefix studios. They look great. I have found a local source for a very similar product...the silver birch tree in my front yard. My recovery is coming along slowly but surely, Karl. I still have another few weeks to go before I'm completely normal, but I'm feeling much better now than before my surgery.

Finally did read that article and thoroughly enjoyed it! Some of my co-workers were impressed, too, even the non-modelers. The rabbits really bring it to life. Now where's my copy of Watership Down (the book, not the movie)?

I showed the pics of the dio to a guy at work...he's not a modeler, but when I showed him all he could say was WOW!, and Holy Cow! Then he asked a question, an it's a good one..."Why isn't this guy in Hollywood doing models there?

I don't quite think I'll make it to Phoenix--I'd be afraid to even attempt to bring this dio on a plane in any way; they'd probably think it was a bomb or something! But I apppreciate the sentiment--sppedy recovery to ya, Jim!

enodaed--thank you, I'm pleased that you like my work.

The hair spray acts as a water-soluble layer on top of which your final "paint coat" goes on to. Once you paint on the final coat, you can then use water to scrub away the paint coat in what ever way you choose, because it's just sitting on this layer of easily-disovable hair spray. If the hair spray wasn't there, the final paint coat would just bond to the undercoat/primer coat, and you'd have a devil of a time getting this effect. This effect is only possible by having that hair spray underneath. Try it--you'll be amazed at how easy it is to do!

  I must also add my name to the list of awe inspired viewers of this amazing hunk of plastic. I've read the article in the new FSM and now have a few more tricks to add to my own arsenal. I do have one question regarding the hair-spray. Maybe I'm just dense, but I don't quite understand it's purpose or what the desired effect is supposed to be. Texture? Any help for this unworthy plastic smasher would be greatly appreciated. And again WooooooooW!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps you can bring "Lair of the Rust Bunnies" to the IPMS Nationals in Phoenix in 2010. I'll be there; it's just five miles from my apartment! (On second thought, perhaps not; during my work at a local plant nursery, I get lots of complaints from customers about bunnies eating the landscaping.)
