So I Married an Axe Murderer
Posted by Swanny on Sunday, October 5, 2008 4:52 PM
I have always been a fan of Karman Ghias and am amazed at how often they have shown up in the movies and on television shows. For example one was used in the opening season and second season of 'Get Smart', Uma Thurman drove one in 'Kill Bill vol. 2' and Mike Myers drove one in 'So I Married an Axe Murderer'. The list goes one to include a contemporary Star Trek movie and many other shows. Here is my interpetation of the red convertible driven by Mike Myers in 'So I Married an Axe Murderer' The plate number is not correct for the movie but otherwise the car is pretty darned close.

The model is the Gunze Sangyo 1/25 Karman Ghia which can be built either hard top or soft top. I did have some issues with the interior cabin panels fitting correctly and with the windshield. The car has three coats of Testors dark red buffed between coats then two coats of Future cut with Simple Green and buffed between coats. I have about 16 hours in this build.

looks beautiful, I love the paint job.  I have to ask though, do you know which star trek movie it was in?  I can't remember seeing it in one Big Smile [:D]

Swanny, what a Clean Build Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup] It looks like it should be sitting right in the middle of a showroom floor.  My wife has wanted a 1/1 Ghia for yrs.We looked all over for a drop top when we lived in Vegas with no luck. I have the Tamiya '66 coupe in my stash that I need to build some day soon. Thanks for Sharing !

Very impressive build Swanny.  I find it harder to build a 'clean' car than a plane or piece of armor that I can 'hide' my mistakes with some weathering.

Very nice.

My old man had a chocolate brown convertible. I wish he had kept it.

Lovely build Matt, my question is how the hell did you remember all those films? Do you have OCD or were you using Google?

Guy,

Don't know if he used it, but the easiest way to find a car in a movie is the Internet Movie Car Database.   www.imcdb.org
