55 Chevy Convertable Is Finished
Posted by Mckay on Saturday, February 7, 2009 1:51 PM

This is a Monogram 55 Chevy Convertible kit. I used Detail Masters distributor and Bear Metal Foil for extra detail. Model is painted with Testors Light Ivory, Turquoise, Engine Orange, Model Masters Metalizers and a few ods and ends. The decals are from Revells 55 Chevy 2door hardtop kit. They are much better than the old Monogram ones. All comments pro or con are welcome.

This is my favorite classic car. Back in 1992, I was looking for a 55 convertible to buy but the prices were out of my range. I did manage to find a real nice 1955 210 2 door hardtop in stock condition that I kept up to 2006 when I finally broke down and sold her when we moved to another state. It was powered by the 265 CI V8, with 2 speed Powerglide and factory power steering. I attended many car shows and actually won about 5 1st place trophies. You did a great job with the convertible. The India Ivory over  Regal Turqoise paint looks fantastic. I would like to bring a couple of items to your attention:

The chrome pot metal V8 badges are missing from under the tail lights. You are also missing the stainless trim piece on the front fender sides and doors. The underside of the hood is black, so are the fender skirts and extensions (engine compartment sides). The firewall is painted in the correct color.

Thanks for looking and you observations. I may try to add the V8 badges to this model but the rest will have to wait until the next one.

 Thanks again

Oh, now you tell the guy all that, after he's finished.  Big Smile [:D]

I know little to nothing about 50's cars so I can't critique, but I enjoyed the WIP and all the pics of the complete model. Thanks for posting them McKay. It came out very nice.

Thanks Dave but don't beat plastickjunkie up I ask for a honest opinion on the model. I now have more info when I build another one. I am still happy with my model and won't change a thing. In fact it will be entered in a local model contest at the end of this month that usually draws about 150 to 200 entries.

Thanks Again

Dmk

McKay asked for opinions,"pros or cons welcomed". We are here to learn and sharpen our skills. If I would have seen the wip from the beginning I would have given the missing details. It is still a very detailed and realistic rendition of the classic '55. I have a very soft spot in my heart for these cars and now regret selling my hardtop.

Please take no offence, I was just kidding. I just thought it was funny because he's had a WIP thread on this kit for a few weeks.

  You made very good suggestions.

Thanks Guys  I appreciate all the input I can get because it helps me build better models. I like trying things that other modelers suggest and I usually get my best info when I mess up.
