Me.262 swoop
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, December 8, 2003 3:43 PM
I have an idea for a diorama but im trying to decide if it will look good or not. I already have a P-51D Mustang with landing gear down. I'm going to build an Me.262 soon and my idea is to have the Mustang trying to take off but the Me.262 is coming from above to destroy it. How does that sound?

You should post this in the aircraft forum for better results. I think that would be an interesting diorama.

[usless knowledge from the history channel] Usually, it was the other way around. The Mustang pilots would fly around the German country side after the bombers had dropped their bombs looking for "targets of opportunity". The only time a ME-262 was vulnerable was either on the ground or during take off. Evidently they were pretty unstable at slower speeds, so the 262 pilots had to maintain a constant course during take off until they built up speed. And, by the time the Germans started using the 262 they were in a defensive mode in the war, mainly trying to shoot down the bombers and fighters during the bombing runs on Germany. I don't think the Germans ever got a chance to use them against the English/American airstrips in England.[/useless knowledge from the history channel]
