I did that "warming" thing, too, Wayne--works like a charm!

Thanks, Wayne--that's some great information to have. I primed with Tamiya White Primer, and am shooting "Rasberry" over that, and haven't had any problems.

By the time I get to polishing it, it'll probably be at least two weeks. Maybe I'll stick it in the box and let it go for a month, just to be sure; I guess I'll just have to see how the build goes.

Thanks, Aaron--I've been thinking about that "painting in bulk" too. It's different with Auto's where you can just spray the bodies and then you need to let them dry and cure. Not like a tank!

Thanks for the input! Big Smile [:D]

I'm sure Krylon doesn't need to wait a month, I just do on occasion because I bounce from one project to another and paint in bulk when I have good weather. I have a couple of builds I painted last year, I'm sure those are ready for polishing. Smile [:)]

If Bgrigg says its good after 2 days I can believe that, I know it is safe to sand Krylon paints after 24 hours. I've had a few bad experiences being impatient with spray paints so I try to plan on a good long curing period.

Really? Cool! I'll try it after the weekend and see how it goes. It's been such an easy thing to paint that if I screw it up, I'll just "Simple Green" it and reshoot it! Big Smile [:D]

Thanks, guys!

YIKES! A month?! Really? It seems like it dries quicker than that? I guess you mean to cure hard enough to polish out adequately? Hmmm....I'll have to put it away for a bit then, I guess?

Krylon is not an enamel, but some kind of lacquer, I believe?

I appreciate the answers, guys! Smile [:)]

If you are just talking about fine sandpaper before another coat, I've never had a problem waiting 24 hours. If you are really talking about polishing with a polishing compound like Novus or Scratch X I usually let it cure for at least a week just to be safe. Often more like a month but tha is usually because I get distracted and start working on something else.

I also depends on the paint, Krylon dries quick, Rustolium takes longer and I used some outdoor equipment paint from a company I never heard of (but I needed the color) and it took a good month before it felt completely cured so I gave it another month just to be safe.

If that's enamel I suggest 10 to 15 days in a warm place and 24 hours in a dehydrator!!!

Ifyou use a dryer, probably you can cut the time.

I would give it a full 24 hours to cure, just to be on the safe side.

How long to let Krylon dry before polishing?

Hi guys,

Working on something here, and I'm surprised at how nicely regular Krylon paint covers!

I'm curious though--anyone know how long you should wait to let it cure/dry before you can polish it up a bit? I need to get rid of some sanding marks in the topcoat before a second pass.

I primed with Tamiya White primer, by the way.
