Ford GT 2005: finished!!!!!!!!!
Posted by ScottN on Saturday, October 24, 2009 9:03 PM

Hello all, I am new to these forums and just posted something over in the figure section.

First a bit about me. I am a wargamer and model builder. I build and paint mostly figures which are in the Science Fiction and Fantasy genre. I am interested in building military and historical figures. I also have many car models, tank, ship and gundam models. I just like to build stuff. So I am sure you will see me around many of the different forums.

So for you viewing pleasure I present my Ford GT 2005.

I plan on painting it silver. I am using the Tungsten version for my inspiration. This is my first car model after about at 15 or more year break in building scale plastic models.

Comments and Critiques are always welcome and encouraged. I am always looking for ways to get better.

Here is the box art and the pieces ready for cleaning.

Everything all primed after a good sanding and cleaning.

hope to have more soon!

Some more progress on the GT.

Here is the engine mock up and paint on the body. I think the silver is darker than the actual Tungsten version. This is the first car I have built since high school and I am 36 now so this is a practice round to get me back in the swing of things.

I did a few washes on some of the silver engine parts to pop the detail and shift the color since I have only one silver in my supplies right now. I also did a light blue dry brush on the valve covers just to bring out more detail. The engine compartment is really simple. I don't plan on plumbing it. Maybe try that on my next kit.

Let me know what you think.

It is hard to tell in this photo but I did use a flat black on the belt.

Cool, man!

I love this car, and have been kicking around the idea of getting a model of one. I'll be watching your build! It's looking great so far!

What did you paint the body with? It's a killer shade!

doog I sprayed it with Tamiya TS-42 light gun metal. I really like this paint, laid down super smooth.

Well the engine bay is together along with the suspension. I did a dry brush on the rotors to give them detail. I also shot the crome supports over the top of the motor with a Matte sealer to change the chrome to a brush metal look.

different angle

Here is the interior bucket. Nothing special here just dry brushed the interior to pop some of the engraved lines.

As always your comments and critiques are welcome.

now go build something!

I'll be watching too.  This was my favorite car when I was a kid watching B&W news film on the 24 Hr race at Lemans.  It became my favorite again when it was rebuilt.  If I win the lottery, this will be one of my 1st purchaces.  Find one for sale, pay cash... no dickering.  Next I really learn how to really drive. Then it's off to Europe where it can be really be driven.

Well here is the final product.

I would suggest leaving off the lower rear "spoiler" until last. I glued it on to get a good coat of body color over the entire model but it gave me a small fit in final assembly. Also the decals are very opaque by being very thick so they cracked a little when I bend them around curves.

Finally I learned that one clear coat is not enough. You can burn through that in a second when polishing. Oh well, I will maybe touch this one up later.

A beautiful model--I only wish that the model manufacturer didn't stick you with those wheels. I can't understand what they think looks so great about those "Donks" wheels? I would have used some more "stock" styled wheels.

A nice finish though!
