Question about Model T cab/roof
Posted by the doog on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 2:13 PM

Hi guys,

As you know, I'm working on that Model T truck, and I have a question. I'm putting it in a separate post to hopefully generate more answers?

Here is the cab:

Pretty bare inside eh?

Anyway--as this folds, it is undoubtedly made of fabric, but does anyone out there know hwo the thing was constructed? Do you thin it would be on a simple armature, with no ribbing or anything? So then to rip it or tear it, could I just Dremel/cut out the top, and fashion some drooping fabric?

Here is the "folded" version/piece...

Any ideas or info? Smile [:)]

I think the top with some torn fabric would be the way to go. Trying to build the frame work for the top would be interesting, but then all the work would not be seen very well. The support for the top was made of wood with metal at the hinge points. Its like the old style lawn chairs that were made of wood. Almost the same design.

Medals are not "Won", they are "Earned".

Mike..

Here's a generic pic of a Model T with the top up.

Note the three support arms. The back and middle support start at the same point just past the door, while the front support branches off from the middle support. I would think a heavy guage (12-14) copper wire would be about right for the scale.

Thanks, guys--hmmm, I dunno if I want to go the "full build" on it, with the armature and all. I think I'll cheat a little and go for a bit of a hole on top with the fabric made out of lead foil...

I appreciate the input, guys!

Can't say I blame you, Karl! I think you could pull it off, but it would be a heck of a lot of work!

So long folks!
