Thank you SuppressionFire!!!

Unfortunately I didn't toke to mani pics during the building process... I don't know why, because usually I do.

Here is the link with all the pics of it, and some other models of mine.

http://public.fotki.com/Brizio77/truck/screamliner-359/

The seats are from a Dodge Super Bee, and I scratch build the arm rest and the under part. The engine need more work, a lot of parts aren't on the kit, so need to scratch build some stuff, and also add wire and plumbing. Because the ari and oil filters are inside the hood instead of outside, I made all the new connections to the engine and body. The entire build it is under the 500 parts, 489. Except the box. For my custom models, I like to have a box made for it, so it is kind of safe if I need to carry it. :)

Thank you for looking, and if you need more detail pics, let me know! :)

Brizio Holly Jebus!

Awesome job on the custom truck! You really have a tallent for modifications and scratchbuilding. A post with more WIP's would really inspire a lot of fellow modelers to take up that sort of challenge. I loved the interior and the woodwork trimmed with metal. The opening doors and hood were off the hook! How about some close-ups of the engine and interior now its complete? Cool

Thank you The Doog!!! :)

I'm not a fan too about those wheels, above all on cars. I though to put it stock tires and rims, and when I tried looks good too. But the rims had some chrome damage, and scratch. I didn't want search other rims or repaint it, I'm not into tucks... So I though to scratch build some different rims/tires... I think it's not to bad too... :)

HOOOOLY CRRRRRAAAAAAAAAP!!!!! Surprise

Oh my GOD!

That is just out-RAGE-ous! Honestly, that's like one of the COOLEST things I've EVER seen! A trophy-taker for sure!!!

The only thing I have to be honest about is that I hate the wheels--those spindly little tires don't look like they could support the weight and mass of the truck. I think that a proper set of like, Goodyear Eagles, or some similar-style "muscle car" wheels would look so much better. I'm not partial to those "DONK" wheels on almost any vehicle.Sad

Anyway---this is tremendous, man--just TREMENDOUS!!

Great interior too, by the way!

After painting-sanding-painting who knows how many time... And thinking until this morning to trow it away, I complete it... I can't believe it!!! It is not perfect, because the paint/sand/paint time, but I'm happy with it and now I can enjoy it... I can say also that I used it as a test, for some stuff that I had in my mind, and could works for other models. I love the kind of retro stile on it mixed with modern... :)

Basically, from the AMT kit I used only the cab, hood and part from the sleeper, chassis, engine, steering wheels, dashboard... The rest is scratch build.
Before start the model I stretched 4 inches the chassis, hood also was stretched and the sleeper too, and put with the cab...

The hood and door, I prefer make them open like 2 wing, because of the many time I though to trow it out of the window... :) Door and hood can open and close, but I glue a piece of chrome plastic to keep them open, so help to see the inside. :)

Will see what Chuck say about his ex 359... :)

Some pics...

I also can remove part of the hood... Kind of hot rod... :)

Thank you for looking!!! :)

spudzero

A cat engine should only be one color and that is cat yellow

Except that the engine posted is a 5 1/2 inch bore Cummins, could be an NTC 400.

As for a Cat, not all, but most.  Some overhauls were white, but this is a 3406A in a 79 W900A Kenworth that I restored.

Painted it to match the truck with a high gloss for easier cleaning.

ome more and slow progress...

The engine its done, finally... smile.gif
I though this color (Dupli-Color Orange Mist) was more brilliant, but its darker... The primer on the engine was grey, so probably it made the difference...

What do you think?

AMT once did a kit of a "Lowboy Trailer" that had two or three big power station transformers for cargo. I have one in my closet. I don't know if I'll ever build it but it makes a nice "go with" for my collection of glass telephone pole insulators.

Well now is a good time to be looking for a trailer, AMT and Lindberg have recently reissued several trailers, two flatbeds, a box trailer, a log trailer and a tanker. They are running about $25 each which is quite a bit less than previous re-issues. There are more planned for re-issue in 2010.

Good to know! I will certainly look a the LHS if they have some trailers. The price also sounds good!!!

 Thanks for the info!

Some pics about the interior, that it is almost done. Need some other stuff in the sleeper.

I kept the old style steering wheels, because I like it better. :)

Here inside the sleeper,  with the little bed. I think to made some kind of fornitureon the side. But I need to wait until the sleeper frame its done.

You can put anything you want for seats in a Peterbilt, almost everybody puts in an aftermarket seat at some point.  Trucks last several million miles but seats under your average truck stop fed driver do not!  They are air suspension seats mostly and the bases you have under them are a bit big for the pedestal under an air seat.

You were talking about frame lengthening.  Wreckers are often very long chassis to use the heavy front end as a counterweight when lifting and towing other heavy vehicles.  About 300 inches from the center of the front axle to the center of the two drive axles is what I remember, which is about as long as you will see a tractor.  The wrecker body is usually very short behind the last axle.  In California 40 feet is the maximum length overall front bumper to back bumper for a single vehicle, with a few exemptions for special purpose vehicles, but that length can vary from state to state, it is not a federal rule.  I use to have a Kenworth W900A that had a 256 inch wheelbase and it took some room to turn.

The seat cushions and armrests look really nice.

Thank you!

I think those seat are from a car... Probably a Plymout... I couldn't remember... As you can see from the color, the truck will be painted in black and orange. But this is a future work... Now I starrted the dash. :)

I didn't know that the 359 was one of the firstbig truck kit from AMT. I saw the plastic its very rigid. And I didn't check very well when I bought, some parts are yes from a 359, but other kit, probably older, because the plastic its not whithe but yellowish and too rigid, you can broke easily... The tires also some have the same design, but made little different... This gave more work to me, try to correct/ix it.

You had a nice idea and it will be aprecitate from you brother!!! I do the same with my brother and his car and motorbikes... I think it is cool have a model of your car or motorbike or truck...

Those seats look nice. I think the 359 was AMT's first big truck kit, so it has a few issues being a fairly old kit.

I started the same kit earlier this year, but have only managed to paint the cab. My brother owns a 281 (basically the same as the 359 but only a single rear axle) and I was going to build it as his truck for Christmas, but at this rate, I'm thinking more likely his birthday and the bottom dump gravel trailers are on an indefinate hold.

Your Pete looks beautiful! Mine kit its about the basic one, but it has spare parts like the sleeper, and all the stuff for attach the trailer, as a option.

I got a chanche to finish the seats. Soon I hope to play with the rest... But I need to find time for it...

Too many project, an little little time... :(

I built the Revell kit of the Peterbilt 359 a couple of years ago. It was a very fun build and one of my favorite projects to date. Hope you enjoy the AMT kit. I haven't seen that one.

I wanted to keep the wrecker portion, so I only stretched it enough to add the sleeper cab. any more, and the wrecker body wouldn't have fit properly. In scale though, 4 inches would be a really big stretch. I dont know if you would have to stretch it for a standard tractor. It depends on the clearance from the sleeper to the 5th wheel hookup.
