Problems/questions on new AMT Torino re-pop

LOL! very true MrSqiud it is in there I dont know if you read that new article in FSM in the last issue but the cast your own plane in resin is very much in line with that statement. Hey Doog I hope I didnt hijack this thread   If you are going to start building your car we want to see pictures.  Would love to see your work on the Torino.

My first thought was... "Oh, is that all ya have to do? GULP!"

Well, looking at your work there, at least I feel better about the recent failed attempt. I see now that without a lot of pre-engineering and foreknowledge, there was little chance of getting that model to sit down where it needed to be. At least I feel better about that!

This is the kind of answer I was hoping to get in this post. I won't be starting my Torino/Cyclone for another few weeks or so, but I hope you will keep updating your build and letting me learn from your WIP. I thank you sincerely for your photos and the knowledge and experience you have shared here!

doog        First of all the front tire when lowered will hit the inner fender, just cut out the inner front fenders from radiator support to firewall. then from the top make a inner fender that will clear the tire.

here is what my car looked like also use the stock exhaust pipes for the engine roll cage.

to lower the wheels at the front I  am going to drill new holes above the ones already there. I did this one the hard way and lowered the body on the frame. Major surgery. I cut and ground all the shaded areas.

do not cut the body out for the tires untill you have the ride hieght in the front looking good. I used the wheel rim only then slowly cut fenders. with tire on rim. hope this helped. Any more questions I will gladly answer.

That Torino cam out really nice!

Can I ask you what you had to shave down to get the stance? Where? I thought that the big rear wall that goes in at a slant was responsible for the rear end riding really high. What did you have to shave down? Could you be a little more specific?

I had problems with the dash too--I wound up building my own. The kit one isn't accurate and I have a great photo of Buddy Baker's RC Cola Torino's interior that shows the dash.

Hey, in the kit there are actually TWO different "rear firewalls" for lack of a better way to put it. They show you to  use the large one--did you use that one? Did it make the rear ride high?

I had a real problem with the wheel placement--they looked like they were out of the wheel well center. How did yours fit? Did you do any mods to the placement?

Sorry for so many questions, but I want to get this next one right! I'm also going to be building David Pearson's Cyclone--that's the same kit too, except for the front!

Hey Doog       I am going to start building a AMT talladega #98 LeeRoy Yarbrough. If it would help I will take pictures of my mods and post a WIP thread for everyone.  It is the same kit with the front end changed. Just got the Decals today actualy on EvilBay. I think I will do that and start tonight and get some work done now. was thinking of doing this anyhow.

I just built the older Torino and had fit issues with the body and tires had to cut out fender alot for good fit of nascar wheels. I had to shave the chassis down for the stance i wanted but I think it looked good. It was hard to find a home for the rear of the chassis and back of body. Not an easy kit but have lots in stash. Here are some pics.

Since it is from the same tooling it has all of the same issues. It was a struggle for me when I built it a number of decades ago too.
