Jacked up Ford F-250
Posted by K-dawg on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 10:55 AM

Hi y'all... I am normally an Armor builder but I thought i'd give a car model (or truck in this case) a fair shot... I am building a jacked up Ford F-250 from the Monogram kit. I found a wonderful set of mud tires in a military toy set at the dollar store last week. The toys were junk but the wheel and tire combo had exceptional molding and detail.

With the exception of the rear shocks I have the suspension buttoned up. In these photos the rear axle is just sitting there (not glued on) and the front tires are likewise just pressed on. I will square everything up when it's time to glue them on. I am planning a full custom bumper and skid plate which will help to hide the somewhat lack-luster front suspension.

I have to say, you car guys don't have much to work with. With a few exceptions the run of the mill car kit utilizes 30-40 year old mold technology, even in the new kits... We Armor and A/C folk are spoiled for sure.

Anyway, here are the pictures so far...

K-dawg, nice to have you "in the garage" (as wbill76 calls it) for a spell! I'm doing a turn over here for a few....I get the itch for something shiny every now and then!

Boy, you're right about the quality of the kits, huh? Armor modelers definitely DO have o idea how good they've got it til you open up something with tires and chrome, lol!

Your project looks good so far! A word of advice--go with Lacquer paints. Enamels take way too long to dry. Just make sure you prime well, and don't forget the 600 grit!
