AMT Challenger
Posted by Robert92562 on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 7:17 PM

This is the first build back after a summer break from model building. An AMT 2010 Challenger. I pick it up from Hobby Lobby for $9.00 on clearance. Despite the 9 bucks my complaints with this kit are.

No engine

No suspension

No exhaust

Lack of interior detail. Regular price was $21.00 that’s a lot for no detail. Fit was fine but that doesn’t make up for lack of detail.

My own issue’s was I got lazy and didn’t want to use the airbrush so I want with the Testors one coat Lacquer and the Lacquer clear….way to thick …..it looks to heavy on my screen.

Comment if you like.

Looks all right Bob!

Its hard to be inspired by a kit that lacks even the basic details. Older AMT offerings are loaded with street or custom options, different motors and some interior choices.

May be a attempt to keep the overall cost lower by excluding everything but the basic body and bare bones essentials. The price caught your eye!

Thanks for posting your work!

Finish looks fine to me.

You did a neat job on finishing the kit.

I am very disappointed to hear of the lack of detail in that kit as I have noticed the box at Hobby Lobby.

I have been used to expecting more from AMT.

It looks like you made the most of a bad kit though. She's a nice looking car!

I'm not sure if its a bad kit. Building mostly Tamiya and Dragon armor kits, I was expecting more. This was the first AMT kit I built. I here that the older AMT kits have more detail. On to the next build.

Well, firsy of al, I think you did an fine job with what you were given to work with. It looks the part. The paint does look a little over-scale; if you're looking for the best metallic paints out there, Model Car World's metallics are ground to scale dimensions, and mixed from actual color chips. They're superb.

This kit was obviously rushed out with the cheapest investment possible up front, and intended only to snare modelers who wanted a curbside model. It's sad, to me, that in this day and age with the technology available that AMT is not putting out top-quality models. Having just gotten into car modeling in the last two years, I"m shocked at what Auto modelers have to work with sometimes, compared to Armor kits. There's not even a comparison.

Nice job.

The Challenger is the baddest looking new car on the road.Maybe this kit will hook a few future modelers.
