Testor's Acrylic Metallic Paints

testors does an excellent job providing top quality paints

which metallic ones of theirs are good picks?

Be aware that paint for R/C cars is often intended to be applied on the inside of a clear body shell. These paints often have a latex base which allows the painted shell to flex with impacts without the paint flaking off. Because the shell itself is glossy, often the paint itself is not (and it doesn't matter because it's applied to the inner surface).

If you are purchasing paint for a plastic model kit, don't buy the R/C paint.

Don't even bother with ANY manufacturers' "metallic" paints if you're serious about finding a GREAT looking metallic paint. The only ones that I've found that measure up at all are Model Car World's paints.

Most metallic paints have pigments that are too large to be "in scale". They make your model look like a toy. But MCW's maker grinds  the metal chips "to scale". The result: a paint that really looks like the REAL paint.

Here's a '56 Chevy in Adobe Beige and Sierra Gold (the orangey color). Note the fine grain of the Sierra Gold color?

after looking at website.

my  point about Testor's paints is they ought to have set of 6 acrylics in metallic

for people like me that build at basically the 'kid level'

If I'm not mistaken, many of Testor's acrylics ARE metallic? I used a metallic green to do this Charger before I discovered MCW's paint line: 

And that IS my Chevy in the previous post--that was actually the first car I built with MCW paints.

HERE is their color chart for acrylic paint. Anything listed as "pearlescent" or "Pearl" is also "Metallic" paint.

I believe I used the "Dark Green Pearl" for that Charger.

there's 5 or 6 metallics and pearlescent

i was expecting more.

now there is another kind of this paint.

'candy apple'. it's in a new set for cars.

i don't think it's acrylic. could be

Note that "candy" paints are usually transparent colours which are one half of a two-part system which requires a metallic backing/base colour.This provides greater colour depth than a single-part coloured metallic colour.
