i've always been more of a MOPAR guy but i've always thought these cars were pretty slick looking. loks good so far!

tried to replicate the splatter paint that was commonly used back then.

i think it turned out pretty good.  combo of primer grey, white and black

looks pretty good tomy eye. its amazing how much stock cars (if you can call them that now) have changed in 40 years. the safety features in this car would be unnactable by todays standards. took alot more stones to drive a racecar back then.

ya but surprisingly i think more people have died in more modern cars. than these old ones.

these polar lights kits are rough! the worst parts are the panel lines and thickness around the wheel arches.

but a little re-scribing and thinning around the wheel arches makes a big difference!

that is true. to me, it seems that the old cars actually handled better. i mean, im no nascar driver but it seems that way from a spectators point of view. also, alot of guys back then started on dirt so they could handle a loose car better. some guys still start in dirt that make it to the nascar lever,but it seems more and more just race asphalt stuff.

Yeah, it seems that all these old Nascar kits are pretty tough to build--I had a mess of a time with a Buddy Baker RC Cola Torino I was trying to do last year. I couldn't get the body to fit, or the thing to "sit" correctly at all. It was one of the rare kits that I have to scrap, salvage what I could out of it, and put it aside to try again.

It'll be cool to see what you do here!

The tape on the roll bars is a very nice touch.

made up the dashboard today.

some body work still goin on.  I put a strip of styrene on the back of the hood to fill in the large gap there. I also sanded off the trim from the backside of the passenger windows just leaving the trim along the top edge

and major cleanup of the window openings.  and the drivers side window trim needed to be sanded down to match the other side!

I see from the end of the CID on the hood that you've shown the '69 version with the Boss 429

but, which version are you actually building?,,,,the '68 with the 427, the early '69 with the 427,,,,or the mid to late '69 with the Boss 429 engine

I am asking because I remember someone showing that the Boss 429 didn't fit too well in the kit without some surgery,,,,,and I don't remember the "68 or early '69 427 engine being available in model form (they were the Tunnel Port, and those looked a lot different than the '67 Medium Riser 427s)

Just wondering,,,,I have a 'Dega way back in the build pile,,,,because it came with the wrong engine for the time period,,,,I want to build Pearson's late season '69, and the kit has a street 428

I'm doing the Boss 429.

the problem is the headers I think.  that's why I left the front roll bar off. I will put in the engine. then put on the roll bars. if anything I will modify the shock supports on the roll bar if there is a clearance issue.

cool, I will watch to see how your's works out, and then do it the way you do

I guess I had better find a Boss 429 Mustang to swap the engine out of,,,,,,,,unless someone makes a resin replacement

I assume the whole chassis is painted that way.  it was a thick type of paint durable etc.

I installed the engine in and the front hoop

glued on front suspension, just gotta add the shocks still

ahhh, I see why your's fit so well,,,,,,,,we have different suspensions in our models

Your's has the '65 Ford based suspension actually used for a couple of decades after 1965

Mine has the stock street based shock tower suspension that was used on street cars until the '73 Cougars, and then discontinued

its all box stock other than adding plug wires.

I agree! What do you use to get the shading? Wash? Or multiple layers of colour?

I use oil washes.to make the dust effects

hood painted, I drilled out the hood pins to use the ones from the 80's monogram kits and just added a loop of wire to them

Scary-good work going on here, JT--your parts look like 1:1 scale!

I just put one light clearcoat on so far.  I'll decal it up then clear it a few times and sand and polish
