I am mainly a builder of Mopar and Ford cars and trucks with an occasional sports cars thrown into the mix. Over the past year I have built a Cadillac STS-V (stock), a '66 Buick Riviera GS, and a '67 Impala SS 427. This time I am attempting Revell's COPO 427 Nova.
My paint will be Tamiya TS-20 Metallic Green with a black interior.
While examining the chassis, I noticed the raised lettering on the inside of the gas tank which is fine with me.
But, on the other side of the chassis is this lettering.
I have started on engine assembly. Several engine parts are in the purple pond being stripped of their chrome.
More to come...
I was anxious to see some color on something today, so while I had been removing mold lines on the body, I set it aside and sprayed the wheels. I'm going to really like this color.
The bodywork also included mounting the rear panel using the rear bumper as a guide. I need to smooth the joint and apply a little putty.
With the exception of decals, the engine is done for now.
I'm looking forward to seeing this completed.
Thanks TD4438!
Getting out of work early for a long weekend gave me a chance to work on the Nova this afternoon. Basically, parts prep and painting.
I even got the body and hood into a coat of white primer.
TD4438 I'm looking forward to seeing this completed.
Me too! Diggin' the color choice as well!

I was hoping to get the Nova painted this past weekend, but that didn't happen. Maybe later this week or this coming weekend.
looking good so far.

Thanks Felix!
I was able to get a coat of paint on the Nova this morning with the rest of the house still asleep. A cup of hazelnut coffee and a can of paint...good combo!
Unfortunately, the hood didn't fair as well. An errant hair found its way on to the hood after I had wiped it down. The hood is now in the purple pond.
That is one mean lookin' green!
Should be a kool color for your mussel car.
You're off to a great start! My Lab likes to add her hair to the mix as well, guess it's just a part of our hobby! Keep up the good work!

Great work, Mike! That color is definitely sweet as well. I love the seats, too!
Man, they sure wrote a novel in the plastic didn't they? What a PITA!
You're cruisin' right along !
Thanks guys!
Finally, a chance to work on the Nova this morning. I started by foiling the shifter boot plate on the chassis and installing the back seat.
I detailed the side panels and the dash.
- Awesome work so far. I'm looking forward to seeing more.
Nice work so far Mike.
I especially like the dash details. Is the instrument panel a decal?
Can't wait to see the rest of the build. I used to own a green '73.

Thanks Griffin and Jim!
I finished the interior and chassis last night. Have a look...
I can now turn my attention back towards the hood and body and get those finished. Then I can start assembly of the major componants.
After leaving the hood in the purple pond for a week and a half, I cleaned off the hood and then after this picture taken, I gave it a light sanding to remove the extra left behind paint.
I got the wheels and tires mounted. The chassis is now up on four wheels!
A quick cleanup of the body and hood this morning and it was back into the paintbooth for another coat of paint!
I'll let these gas out and then start the foiling stage. Fortunately, not much foiling is required.
I jumped onto polishing the Nova today. In the back of my mind, I want to finish the Nova with the hopes of maybe taking the finished model to the MASSCAR show this Sunday in Taunton, Mass. I still have much to do on it.
I started with a soft cloth, a bottle of Meguirs Scratch X 2.0, and my last bottle of Sam Adams Winter Lager. Spring is just around the corner, you know.
I'm not sure if I am going to clearcoat the paint as the finish looks quite good to my eye. Next up, BMF!
The body is polished and foiled, the interior and chassis are complete and it is time for a mockup to check for fit and stance.
So far, so good! Time to insert the windows and all the trim.
I spent some time today installing the window and gluing the chassis and interior into the body. One thing I didn't like was the way the exhaust tips hung so far below the rear fender. My solution was to enlarge the mounting holes for the rear pipes slightly enough so that the exhaust was pushed up farther.
I added the hood trim and hinges.
I have finished my '69 Nova COPO 427. I want to thank all those folks who took the time to view and to comment on this build.
Awesome work Mr. Mike. It's been a pleasure to watch.
Great job.
Thank you guys!
Outstanding looking build Mike, the finish is spectacular! Nicely done Sir!
Thank you Trey!
WOW, Mike--that's a great looking little "sleeper". What a cool color!
