Group Build Feeler : Mustangs and Corvettes GB
Posted by taxtp on Thursday, September 26, 2013 8:11 PM

Hi Everyone,

I've been hosting the 2013 Automotive Group Build over on the Group Builds forum. It's scheduled to wind up on 31st December, and there has been some discussion about my hosting a group build for Mustangs and Corvettes.

Basically, if it's one of those makes, you can join, as long as it's not already finished. You can enter as many cars as you would like to. It can be a classic, a racing car, a concept car, a recent model, whatever rings your bells.

The planned time frame for the Group Build is to start on 1st January 2014, and run for 4 months, so it would conclude on 30th April. The idea with this is to keep it tight, so that we have a number of people building concurrently and make it more interesting.

I'm hoping that we can get about 10 models completed during the build, but more would be super.

This post is just to gauge if there is enough interest, so if you feel like joining the fun, please let me know that you are interested.

Cheers.

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Interested but can't give a firm 'yes' at this point.

Great, thank you both. Hopefully we can pick up a few more along the way.

If you're in, what are you planning ?

Tony,

I'm in. I'm doing a 67 Vette and either a 67 Mustang or a 70 Boss 302.

Later.

I'm in!  Will do a Vette for sure, maybe a Stang.  RK

I think that makes it about 6 or 7 builds,so we're getting there. I think I'm, up for a Monogram 53 Vette and a Revell 70 Mach 1 Mustang. It could change though. I find it hard to resist racing cars.

Cheers

I have a 1/25 1969 Ford Mustang Mach I Cobra Jet 1:25 Scale Revell #85-4290 in my want to build pile.

Can you explain to me how a group build works?

Hi Ktkrow,

I will start a thread for the Group Build in the Group Builds section of the forums, closer to the start date.

The idea is that we all build our kits during the same time frame, exchange comments, work in progress photos, ideas, chat, encouragement, information and anything else we want to share in that thread.

You post photos of your completed car model once it's done, and optionally can display a JPEG 'badge' from the group build in your signature here, as soon as you join it.

I've found them good for motivation, interest, and to get help with information or techniques that are troubling me.

The main objective is to enjoy it, nothing more than that.

BTW, I've built that kit, it's a really good one. I plan to use it to build other variants of '69 Mustangs as I go. Had a thought of using it as the base for a Boss 429 and Boss 302, amongst others.

As an example of a group build, you could look here:

The 2013 Automotive Group Build

I've planned to make this group build a bit shorter in duration, so that we get everyone building their kits at about the same time, and therefore interacting in the group build at the same time.

Cheers

So I guess my 1/48 P-51 Mustang and 1/350 Flower Class Corvette are out? Whistling Heh heh...

I doubt that I'll be able to participate, while although I have been working on a '62 Corvette, it is about %80 done, and I don't have any other car kits in the works.  However I do love the idea of an Automotive Themed GB!

I play World of Tanks! (Yeah, I'm a dork)If anybody has one of those kits with the WoT coupons inside, I'll be happy to take them off of your hands!   :-)

Tell you what Supernova, I'll let you in with a 1/24 Mustang, just because it's the right scale.....

Same goes for the Corvette. (if you're game)

Post a photo of your 62 here if you like, I wouldn't mind seeing it.

Tony,

I ordered a 70 Boss 429 today, so I will be doing a 67 427 Vette and 70 Boss 429. If I get these done with enough time left I may do the Hot Rod Magazine Funny Car Mustang. Every time I go to the Hobby Shop it keeps calling to me hehehehe.

I hope you get to the funny car Eric. The 'Boss Hoss' does the same thing for me. In fact, I just googled it and I want to do it all over again. The other one that appeals is the 'Miller' Mustang from the 80s that Monogram were good enough to give us. There are a few Corvettes too, but I've really gotta do the '53.

Come and join us Fantacmet, it'll be good to see your vette. Which one do you have in mind ?

Cheers

Tony,

Thank you for the link to the 2013 group build. I am enjoying reading it and I'm learning a LOT!  It definitely has inspired me to join this GB!  I'm 10 pages in, and that only puts me up to mid-February, but will read the entire thing.

On a personal note, I think this is a great community to be a part of.  Because of that, I feel at ease joining and showing my work, as I am very new to the forums and am just bak to building after 3 decades.

Please add me to the roster for the new GB.

I'm building the stang:   1969 Ford Mustang Mach I Cobra Jet 1:25 Scale Revell #85-4290

I'm looking forward to this build.

Ken

I'm glad to hear it '68GT. I think I have at least one of every Mustang in 1/24 and 1/25 for the 1964 to 1973 period. At least those that have bee navailable in the last 24 years sinec I first got hooked. I've never got me a Revell 70 Mustang Grande though, in fact have never even seen it.

I did see a Metallic green 70 Mach One on the road to day. That got me going. I could start now.

Cheers

Thanks Tony.

Like many have expressed, I can't wait to get started.  There are many new (to me) techniques and ideas that I have been reading from other builds, articles and the 2013 GB that I can't wait to get out of my head.

At the moment, I am deep into the beginning of my M1A1 Abrams build but I intend to finish this before the end of the year, so I can fully get into the auto build.

Can't wait to start and thanks for the invitation to the group.

Eric, I feel your excitement!  I have not finished the last two in the GB now and I can't wait for this one.  I have looked at this kit long enough, I gotta smear some gloo on it!  Last time I did was 1968!

Rommelkiste,

That is sharp! Is that a vintage kit from 1968? Can't wait to see it finished. Here's the vette I'm doing It's a 67 427.

Yes Eric, the kit was released in '67.  Hope I don't barf it up!  I did the fastback version of your Vette a few years ago.  It went together well and I like its look.  Those Minilites will look Killer on your Vert!  I gotta keep my pop-tart grabbers outta the Vette kit till the GB starts and finish the others.  It's getting tough!

rommelkiste, some FYI fer ya.  Be careful when you fit the tilting hood on the Mako.  I built one back in the day and the hood wouldn't close all the way because of the hinges.  I just finished rebuilding it this year.  I had to alter the hinges just a tad to get the hood to close down on the body.  It does turn out fine though.  I'd build another if I had one.  Dan

Just ordered a 69 Baldwin Motion Corvette. If I get that one finished I might try my hand at a Mustang.

Rommelkiste,

I do like the minilites. They are not chromed so it makes it easy to spray them with Alclad hehehehe. It also has a set of spoke caps I think may look good on the 62 I'm working on now.

midnightprowler, 65ss,

I'm looking forward to seeing the 66 Shelby Hurst and the Baldwin Vette. I haven't seen those kits yet.

Any suggestions on where to buy miniltes or a brand name I can search the internet for?
