like any sanding, start with a low numbered grit and work your way to a high one. i'd suggest starting about 180, then 600. you don't want it too smooth, so the primer has something to grip.

I'd use a full bodied primer on it before sanding.  Those full bodied primers such as Krylon will do some filling as well as priming.

I picked up M & S Sports resin conversion kit last week.  This is my first auto kit.  The body seems to have a slightly rough texture to it.  will I need to sand this before starting the painting process?  What grit sand paper should I start with?  How many different grit papers should I go through?  Anybody have any experience with this resin kits to share?
