Try painting some Tamiya clear smoke over the chrome.
Its a quick, easy, cheap method.
If you don't like it you can still go with the methods above.
Al-Clad Chrome will be a good option. High gloss perfect surface with a coat of high gloss black and a light coat of Al-Clad chrome
i did the same as you on motorcycle exhaust system and the painted it with Al - Clad and it looks like this
I use Alclad. Both their chrome and polished aluminum colors make a good chrome look. The secrets to using it are to have a flawless gloss black undercoat, and airbrush it on in a very thin coat.

You can use Bare Metal Foil over te sanded areas, just make sure you sand the areas as smooth as possible.

Hi I have a revell kenworth kit and need a solution to getting the same shine that the chrome has,I have glued the fuel tanks and the exhaust stacks and sanded the joins down removing the chrome.any help most appreciated.
