Revell BMW 318i Compact Cup Saloon Race Car

I built this box stock after I had shortened the chassis by about an 1/8th of an inch!

When I first offered the chassis up to the body it was much too long. So where the step is in front of the rear wheels I cut the chassis and glued it to the interior tube then into the channel in the rear bumper that takes the chassis tab.

I then shaved a bit off at a time until by test fitting the front tab, that fits to the bottom of the front bumper was short enough to drop into place. I then cleaned up the cut section by adding small pieces of plasticard, and repainting matt black.

The original chassis...................

The modified chassis........................

The decals are of the original kit that are a bit discoloured but slide on and dry very well. I did consider printing a copy but would have been unable to cut out the discoloured portions between the coloured chequerboard squares. Also when lightening the copied image of the decal sheet, the colours faded and lost their crispness.

Hello!

Cool, those kits are really rare nowadays! Your BMW is looking good! I have a similar BMW but in Red Bull colours. I actually have almost two of them - bought them for 1 Euro on a garage sale. So while I can still build the race car, I grafted the front suspension and the wheels on a Volkswagen bus:

My decals are also badly yellowed, I'm thinking about re-drawing them and custom printing them one more time - if I ever get to build that beemer, that is.

Good luck with your modelling projects and have a nice day

Thanks Pawel. It's interesting to note that although all of the intructions related to the Compact, the picture on the front of the instruction booklet was of the Red Bull Coupe!

This is why perhaps the chassis was too long?

The picture is of the Coupe not the Compact!

Hello!

Yeah, that's funny - I just checked my instructions and those don't have any picture on the front page. But the model shown on your instructions is the one I have in my box! So it's entirely possible somebody mixed things up and that's why your chassis is too long. Good thing you managed to make it fit anyhow!

That's just it Pawel, I know from seeing both versions racing that the coupe is longer, so yes someone must have not only put the wrong chassis in the box but printed the wrong picture on the Compact instructions.
