Wheel and Tire Question

Got any pictures of what you're dealing with here? Good to see a fellow Army member in here. I spent 8 years active as a UH-1H crewcheif and 6 years in the NG as a wheeled vehicle mechanic in a Field Artillery unit and would do it all over again.

Not sure what you mean by staggered wheels.  Do you mean the left side wheels are not exactly across from the right ones?  Or do you mean that the tires are not exactly vertical- they lean?

I can't remember them, but I've seen several websites where you can get resin wheel/tire combos for different things. There is even a website that cross-references tires and wheels to the kits they came in. So, say you want a BF Goodrich All-Terrain in 30", it would call out what kit those came in. 

I recommend doing a google search for 'scale resin tires and wheels' or '1/25 resin wheels and tires', or similar. Search a bunch of times with different terms--you're bound to find something. I did this a while back for a Jeep kit I worked on.

Hi Joe, thanks for the welcome.  23 years active duty, almost all of it spent in light/airborne infantry.  And I would do it all over again as well.  

It looks like you need an external source for pictures, which I don't have.  Basically, the tires are the same size for the front and back.  C5 Corvettes have larger tires in the back (as do many performance cars) and it looks wierd to see them the same size.  But it looks like I have a direction to search now.  Thanks for the replies everyone.

1:25 scale? I've got a pair of racing slicks from a 63 that won't be used if interested.

Heya Don. Staggered wheels refers to the rear wheels being a different size than the front wheels. Vettes have larger diameter as well as the wider width.  Also, some oval track cars had axles not parallel, sometimes referred to as stagger.

 

 

 

Ah, front to back.  I was familiar with stagger side-to-side on oval track race cars, had not heard the term for a front-to-back difference.

Not sure of size but have a full extra set, rims and tires, for a 2010 Shelby gt500, they are staggered, but not aggressively so.  Bought a second kit to make changes, don't need them. Yours if u want and tell me where to send them.  New here, 1st post, so still learning rules.

    There  is an article in the April 2017 issue of Scale Auto magazine about creating wider tires . It was writen by Gary Kulchock . It clearly explains how to widen tires for just about any vehicle . I would check it out . T.B.
