I haven't done one in ages either, only used to do 4x4's as gifts for club or Association officers.
Working on the new Jeep Honcho release as a change of pace, (taking some pics as I go, to post up when done), and because I don't want to start on the road wheel nightmare on the Takom MkIV tank.
Hey Andy,
I hope you do a WIP thread with your bug.
I'd love to watch it go together.
As for the order of things, I dunno and am just following the directions.
I usually build and detail the engine first, paint the frame and suspension on the tree and paint the body and interior seperatly, then put it all together. That's just me though, better car builders probably do it diffrently.
I really enjoy cars but the body takes a lot of time due to it's high gloss finish. Since you are going with a dullish finish it shouldn't take as long.
Maybe I should get a VW now?!? LOL...and rust it up.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

There's a handful of us building cars for the first time in forever. I just built a Dawn of Justice Batmobile this past weekend.
Like airplane kits where each kit has its own idiosynchrocies, there are often differences in car kits, but for most it is possible to paint the body seperately, complete all frame/chassis work seperately, and then mount body on frame (even if the Beetle had platform rather than frame. Often it is possible to snap body over frame without glue, but forget exactly how that VW kit was arranged.

Hah! Found Greg's VW post, did you?
If not, waddle over there at 2000 rpms and check it out.
Love to see what you do with your Beetle.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
Hi guys!
I am attempting to build a car kit for the first time. I have built plastic airplanes for years but the 68 Volkwagen bug by Revell caught my eye. I owned one during my hippie days and the kit sure is bringing back memories!
So are there any tutrials on the site for car building? How do they differ from airplane kits? I want my bug to be done just like my old bug and that would include a dull paint job and some modifications to the interior. But maybe a straight build except for that?
Hope to keep everyone posted on its progress!
