That turned out great Kensar.  I'd love to drive it!  

I have finished now.  One thing I had to correct is that all four wheels were not on the ground.  I cut and reglued some major suspension parts on the front, but its all hidden.

I like the result.  I've been wanting to add one of these to my collection for several years now, and it's finally realized.

Getting on to the body now.  This kit has headlight buckets with separate clear lenses, so there is the opportunity to put in light bulbs.  I get fine wire (0.003") and twist it around a another small wire (0.010" to 0.015") to form a loop.  Then dip the loop into some clear 5 min epoxy to form the light bulb.  Here I have made several.

I paint the reflector bucket with Alclad chrome and drill a hole through the backside.  I insert the wire of the bulb and CA glue it in from the backside.

In this picture you see the result.  Due to the pattern on the lens, its hard to see the bulb inside the reflector bucket.

This lightbulb method is very convincing when the lense is clear.

Details are at a premium and color application and usage are astounding. Wow!!

Great work on everything...but I particularly like the fibreglass treatment. So simple, but I never would have thought of it!

Next update:

I am adding a fiberglass texture to parts of the interior - inside the door panels, the interior roof, and the sides of the engine compartment.

Start with a woven material like that used for women's scarfs.

Cut out pieces using paper patterns of the surface to be covered.  Brush on ample amounts of liquid cement.  Wait a few seconds until the cement softens the plastic surface.  Lay the woven material onto the surface.  If the woven material doesn't stick well, brush on more liquid cement through it.  Gently press the woven material into the plastic surface.

The woven texture may be too exagerated.  If so, fill in the texture with primer.  In this case, the texture is on places that is hard to see, so I did not fill in the texture.

Decals on

Clearcoating next.  I plan to brush on some Future, then hit the panel lines and finish the body details.

The tires will need a final wash.

The resin I was looking at has some tanks that aren't included in the original kit, including the oil tank. Also looks like you get a better looking rear differential cover. While on evilbay, I found a pe set by Hasegawa, but it's not as extensive as the Studio 27.

I just last night caught the 'mini doc' that Grand Tour Season 2 did on the epic 1983 faceoff between Lancia and Audi for the World Rally Championship...so naturally this kit has to go on my 'must get' list!

Lewbud - I would like to see what resin parts you got.  I didn't look for them but don't recall if I've ever seen any.  One thing about the Studio27 PE - on the hood of the car is a grill that is in the PE set.  It has a different curve to it than the grill on the car's hood.  I'm getting to the body of the model now, so I will have to deal with it.

Keavdog - The AK engine grime is not branded as a wash.  It is product # AK082.  It is a thinned paint, having some large and heavy pigment particles in it to give some grimey texture.  If you thin it out, the heavy particles separate and you only get a color change, like a wash.

The guitar string is a #46 (0.046" diam).  It has a core wire with another wire wrapped around it.  I bent it over different size rods to get the smooth bends.  It will hold its shape after bending.

I've finished the wheels and will post pics soon.

Looking fantastic. Is the ak engine grime a wash?  Really like your use of colors and light weathering... and is that a low E string?  How on earth did you get it to bend smoothly?  Or is it glued in there under tension?

Looking good Kensar! I have this kit on order from HLJ and it should be in soon (yours is a rebox of the Hasegawa kit). I checked the Studio 27 website, but the photoetch set is out of stock at the moment. I found the pe set and some decals I wanted on Evilbay, but they are more than I want to spend. I did find a set of resin parts to upgrade the engine compartment that I will be purchasing. I look forward to watching yours come together.

Update - chassis completed, starting on wheels.

First thing - get rid of the ridiculously large flange on the back side of the rims.  The right side is the as-molded wheel.

Pictures of the completed chassis.  The orange vent hose is a painted up guitar string.

The front end lacks a lot of detail.

No, almost none of the kit suspension looks like the real car.  That's the reason I decided to build it without opening body panels.

One item RoG left out was the oil tank.

 I got the rear suspension and framework assembled and painted.

Only a couple more items to add to the back end.

That looks great.  I like the various metals and a touch of grime.  Does the real car have those big blocky axle carriers?

Got more work done on the engine bay.  RoG left out a lot of details even though the back end is not supposed to open, one can see a lot of the engine through the huge rear window.

John, the Studio27 photoetch was only a sheet of photoetch.  Mostly details for the exterior.  Years ago Studio27 was a major vendor of photoetch for automotive kits.

Wow that is looking great.  What comes in the studio27 kits? Is it like eduard biged kits?
