Thanks Greg. I cheat with the lowering, just cut away various parts of the chassis and axles, although in reality lowering one is easy, by twisting the spring splines in the front axle and lowering the back by moving the spring plate attachments! We did that with one of our sons custom Beetles.

This looks like our sea blue Beetle when our sone were small, we used roof racks to carrying everything on holidays. That's until we had an argument with a concrete overhang in a multi-storey carpark and knocked the rack off! The next year we had a trailer!

Oh my, sounds like something from a movie. Or something I'd do. Or both.

Great beetle! Me, it was bikes on the roof of the Explorer and a hotel entry canopy.

That suspension tweek worked the other way as well to gain additional off road ground clearance. Just don't take any corners too fast!

What a sweet build!  A really nice job, and I love it.  

Very nice!  If I can suggest one more thing; if there's rust around the fenders, then those running boards ought to be heavily rusted out.  My mom had a Beetle when I was growing up that she kept nearly pristine - except for the running boards.  Road salt ate away both the metal and the rubber on top of it.  Not likely an issue for a California beach car but since it looks like there's rust elsewhere, I figured I'd mention it.

That's cool Pat.  I like the roof rack stacked up with beach gear.  

Thanks guys, yes LonCray, ours used to rust out after running them in the winter, the road salt would eat through the running boards.

Sorry Pat. I posted an image this morning but I see that it didn't take. Alot of vintage Dodge/ Plymouth muscle cars were, as you know, painted lime green. I saw it as only fitting to put a decal of the Dodge Scat Pack on the side of or at the rear of this car. A small one so it's not overpowering but a subtle addition just to make give this car a little humor. Scat Pack denotes an engine power option available for those cars. What's really weird is that the picture in my post doesn't show up one minute and then it shows up the very next time I pull the page up.

What's a lot weirder than that is that Scat Pac logo is appearing sort of as a pop up over various places in this thread as I scroll up and down.

Never seen anything like it. Is anyone else seeing that or do I need to make an appt with shrink?

No Greg you don't need a shrink or new glasses, I've seen the logo, as you say, popping up all over the place!
