Another mistake!

I wanted the driver of the car to have a face shield.  A helmet without a face shield in a sprint car looks funny.  So I made one, but the mistake was in gluing the body into the seat before installing the shield on the helmet.  I worked many frustrating hours without success.  I knew it would be difficult to remove the driver without damage but finally bit the bullet and tried it.  I  used careful drops of CA debonder to loosen the body from the floor and seat.  I was sucessful, but the debonder did bleach and bleed some of the marker color from the shoulder straps, and stain the rear of the seat back, but I did not have too much problem with the latter.  I also glued the tail in place as well as body side panel.

The driver's arms could not be put on until the body side panels are in place, and that is my next step.  Painting of wings is going on while glue sets.

Got the frame done, seat and cooling scoop installed, along with axles and suspension.  About half the body panels are painted and done, will finish up with the body panels.  Also working on the driver figure.

Sorry to hear about that Don. If you need it I spied another decal sheet on ebay :

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Joey-Saldana-1-24-Scale-Waterslide-Sprint-Car-Decals-WOO-Dirt-Racing-New/124060765877?hash=item1ce2990eb5:g:yREAAOSwTZ9eLLM6

Unfortunetly that is not the kit decals, but is an earlier livery.  I would like to use the kit livery.  If anyone else has the kit and a scanner, if they could scan the decal sheet at about 800 ppi, they could just email me the image.  I am pretty good at doing inkjet decals.

Sorry bout that Don. A little quick on the draw there. Looking forward to more from you on this one.

Big mistake!  These days I almost always scan the decal sheet, so I can try inkjet decals If I have problems.  I did not do that on this kit.  Mistake!  I had read in one review that the decals were finicky, but I ignored that.  This is a new kit, and I have never had problems before.

Had moderate problems on first tail number.  The decals are very thin, and they stick very well even with lots of setting solution on surface.  I had a bit of a problem getting the second number in the right place to match other side, so I tried to pick it up to reposition.  The decal curled up upon itself, and I could not get it uncurled.  Since that was the second number, I had nothing left to scan.  I am then scanned the sheet.  I will try to take the larger number from the wing plate, edit it and then rescale it to fit.

Learned my lesson.  Scale all decals!

Things are starting to come together, and have the engine and firewall in the frame.  Here are some pics.

Got the engine ready for fuel lines and plug wires, except for magneto.  Lost the kit mag, but have scratched a replacement and it is ready to add.  I think I will pre-wire it before gluing to engine.

Joe Saldana sprint car.

After putting the Offie up on shelf I started on Revell's newest sprint car kit, the Joey Saldana car.  I heard that Revell was coming out with a new kit, and I am a Saldana fan so grabbed one as soon as I could.  It pays to pay close attention to the directions and part numbers on this kit, because they have just added new parts, rather than eliminate the old ones, so if you have built older kits it is easy to grab the wrong parts.  The frame is pretty well done- still another coat of paint needed.  Engine buildup is under way.
