Nice Bucky. Very cool color combo. What is pancaking? Never heard that term. Did the kit come with an opening trunk?

"Pancaking" is a customizer's term. The original trunk lid on a '49 Mercury has this shape:
I cut it apart as shown:
I added the vertical part to the body, leaving the deck lid "flat as a pancake":

The hood has this shape:
I applied tape along the body contours and cut it apart, leaving a "pancaked" hood:

I hope this helps explain my method on the "pancake" process. There may be other ways to do this that are easier, but I was able to get the look I wanted.
