Have you ever ordered from these folks, John?
This one is pricey but looks fantastic. Great details and full engine. I'll have to get one when available.

mustang1989 Real G Yep, I think Fujimi must have seen the market potential and repopped their kits. I got the 1966 Ken Miles car for under $20 - but paid $10 postage! Mister.....I paid almost 3 times that much before they repopped their kits. The lesson....it pays to be patient. lol

Fujimi does indeed make a nice kit of this car. What's really good for you is that prices for these kits are low now. When I bought mine last year I paid waaaaaaaaaaaay more for it because of the low availability. Now ......it looks like the market is flooded with them so you can easily pick one up for between $35-$50.
i have a fujima in my stash. when i was in high school my dad helped me build the Revell(?) with the clear body. it was the last model we built together before he died. always fond of it.

I did a couple track days on what was the Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele UT - now called the Utah Motorsports Campus. The owner had an amazing collection of cars including a couple of the lemans winning GTs. Just amazing - check this article out

Thanks all for your input. I had the opportunity to do an up close viewing of the GT40 back in the day a local Ford dealer. Always struck me as a beautiful purpose built machine while the Ferrari 330's were a work or art.
That's a very nice model of the car I think is the second best-looking in automotive history (after the Lamborghini Miura). Sleek lines, not too nutty with the scoops, and a greenhouse with windows you can see out of. Bellissimo!
Did this one a long time ago - not sure which year ('68 I think) it is but it's the Fujimi kit and being a curbside kit (no engine) might be a good start for your son.

I am no car expert, but Fujimi makes a number of GT40 kits - but be mindful of the year. IIRC there are 1966 and 1968 versions. My untrained eyes noticed the rear end of the cars are very different. You want the 1966 version for the Ford vs Ferrari car.
The Fujimi kts are curbside (no engine), so you may need to look elsewhere. Meng is coming out with a 1966 GT40 with full boogie, but it is pricey.
Someone told me that the Ferrari 330 was a P3, not the P4 as commonly kitted. There was something different about the wheel base and wheel track dimensions. Not sure how different they looked on the outside though. All I see are the most super sexy lines ever to race at Le Mans!
My grandson is enthralled with the Ford vs Ferrari movie. I build wooden model sailing ships but want to bring him into modeling through the Ford GT 40 & Ferrari 330P4. Any suggestions for the best models of these two? Would like detailed engine compartments. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
