Revell decal problem , Yo ! Some help please !!!

My friend has a Revell NASCAR model. He is trying to use Solvaset to get the decal on the hood to snuggle down over the hood pins but the Solvaset is not working. Whats up with Revell decals????

I know the ones that came with the one I built seemd to be pretty thick and the stuff I use did not help to much either. That could be the reason for his problem as well.

Try heating the decal with a hair dryer once it's in place it will soften the decal and you can press it in place.
When in doubt just build it. Mark http://www.ipmslivonia.org/ipms/

Generally, Revell-Monogram decals are not compatible with setting solutions. I always had the same problem with my stock cars as well. All you can do is as mkhoot described and sometimes you may have to cut small slits with a sharp knife to get the decal to lie down.

I have found that the different seting solutions have different strengths. I have generally found that thick or decals that don't react to Micro sol/set work with Gunze Mr Softener. Maybe try a different solution? heating, as mkhoot suggested also generally works too. I have been known to be quite brutal with decals, swamping them with solution, applying heat and using my finger (well wetted with solution) to rub the decal into place. I may also repeat the process several times maybe working for many minutes on one decal or part of a decal. Definately not what "the book" will tell you but it works for me.

Here's a pic of a Revell Nascar kit that I finished a few weeks ago. There are 5 seperate decals that make up the hood and fenders. I bet I spent close to ten hours on these 5 decals alone. Like the others said, I used heavy coats of Microsol, followed by heat with a hair dryer. Next I took a lint free paper towel dipped in water to push out any remaining air bubles or wrinkles. If you man handle the decals too much you will remvoe the top clear layer which will leave it looking dull. A couple of coats of gloss coat will restore it .

I built a 1998 # 3 a while back and used solveset to set my decals with no problems.

If I remember right the Hood was the hardest part in getting them to lay right across the gap.

what I did was apply the decal following the directions. and patting it down with a damp paper towel.. then using a blunt (very blunt so it don't tear the decal) toothpick I pressed the decal into the seam as best I could .. then let dry a bit..

after that I brushed on the Solveset.. let air dry..(don't touch after applying) and repeated this step untill it looked right.. after the first application or so i just mostly brushed the solveset on the seam area.. untill the decal snugged down... can't use to much at a time and it takes time.... but it worked for me.
