Hello All,
I just finished Revell's '78 Vette (Indianapolis 500 Pace Car) but finished it as my late son Matthew would have liked it......bright yellow.
Basically the kit is OOTB with the exception of the decals that I made myself using CorelDraw software, Micro-Mark clear decal film and Krylon acrylic gloss clear spray. I think the decals turned out OK given they were the very first ones I have ever made.
Paints included Pactra's Racing Finish Daytona Yellow from a rattle can and both Humbol and Model Master enamels.
Everything was sprayed with Future prior to decal application and then sprayed with Future again to seal the decals.
Although hard to see in the photos, all the autoglass is actually tinted yellow....achieved with a mixture of food colouring and Future that the autoglass sat in for a couple of hours and then carefully suspended over paper towelling to allow the excess to wick away and for the Future to dry.
A couple of the pictures are close-ups of the front and rear license plates. The rear one is the date that my son Matthew was killed (March 28, 2005......280305) and the front one "Bud" is what I used to call him. He had a great passion for cars and was looking forward to getting his learners permit this past summer until, ironically, a hit-and-run driver robbed him of his life and plunged me and his mom into the deepest pits of misery that we are still grappling with. Knowing his love for cars and the 78 Vette was one both of us dreamed of one-day owning, I built it the way he would have wanted!
Although this is only my second auto kit (I usually build things that fly), I think it turned-out well.
Thanks for looking.......
RODC
