Odd thing about Tamiya motorbike kits
Posted by nick31 on Thursday, June 1, 2006 4:22 AM

Tamiya as we all know produce fantastically detailed and well made motorbike kits, but after building several, this thought struck me.

Why do they make a little protrusion on the fuel tank, which the breather hose attaches to, and then they dont provide any tubing for the hose. Strange, as they provide a load of tubing for plug leads, coil leads, etc. many of which arent even visible when the bike is assembled. One would imagine that the fuel breather hose, being on top of the tank would be more important to provide.

Even on the NSR500 kit, the protrusion is actually a seperate piece which you attach to the tank. Why make this and not supply the hose that attaches to it ?

I mean whos going to build a bike, and leave the tank as it is without a breather hose ???

OK rant over ;)

Well, I will be the first to say that I left it off Big Smile [:D] Heck, I didn't even realize there was anything that went there! I'm not exactly a bike rider by any means, so I don't really know the little details to them, but thanks for the info Thumbs Up [tup]

Yes isn't it a bit strange? I've wondered about that too. One other thing is the air box of the Honda RC211V. Of coarse not visible undernieth the tank dummy but why supply the large tank that isn't visible either and then leave out the large air box? Would look hell of a lot nicer with the air box in place it you plan to show the bike with the cowlings off, wich Tamiya by the way suggests as you are to screw the cowlings in place.

Yeah that is odd, because on their older motocross(dirt bike) kits they have the tank filler cap breather tube. But they don't have any of the carb overflow or breather tubes..? I guess they draw the line somewhere....
