58 cadillac
Posted by brassbow on Thursday, January 3, 2008 12:59 AM

I built this 58 cadillac eldorado as a blueprint for a real one I am restoring. Painting this car was a challenge, 8 times to be exact because I didnt know that the Testors primer I was using was reacting with the House of Kolor paint I had. It is silver base, candy cobalt blue with clear. The kit was made by ARII. This was a good kit because they are the only ones besides the promo makers who build this beloved oddity. The few gripes I can make about the kit is the roof is not molded to the body so it is very difficult to line it up. The second is some of the parts are too small and delicate and are easily damaged when trying to cut them off the tree. The third is offer some actual white wall tires, hand painting them is a hassle to get the tires to look right. Anyway, it was great to actually build a model again since it has been 10 years since the last one I built. Enjoy!!!!!

If you would listen to everybody about the inaccuracies, most of the kits on your shelf would not have been built Too Close For Guns, Switching To Finger

Yeah thats one of them. I have a sedan deville (pictured in background) and a coupe deville which the model is a duplicate for.The coupe deville will be done in the same color as the model and will have the same sabre wheels if I can find them. In case you are wondering, I live in Tucson, Az. Old cars do not rust and are still plentiful here. Thanks for the good word, Morgan

NICE JOB! you put a little more detail into yours and it paid off. I believe the color you chose is very close to a color available on the original. After the trouble it gave me with the paint and some of the pieces like the windshield and the vent windows I am like "screw it ! it looks good enough!"

Influenced by the "Century Series Fighters" , car companies designed  vehicles that were ready to "take off " . People liked a bit of jet fighter in the family car. Cool then , very cool now. My Uncle had a 59 Cadillac when it was the latest thing. These cars are a history book on wheels. Thanks for showing your very fine build of this historical auto.
