Jezz, Great looking model. I am building the Repsol you have in your signature, pretty similar part wise as the parts I see on the Ducati. I am new to building and do have a couple questions for you if you dont mind. 1. When do you use the clearcoat for these motorcycles? 2. I see in you first post - the parts drying your box. How do you get the paint to go on so well without showing brush strokes. For example your rear tire fender looks very smooth where as mine seems to show a few brush strokes and not nearly as smooth? Basically getting that spray painted look rather than being able to tell it was painted with a brush. 3. What do you mean by heat treating the exhaust? |

1. i use zero paints which are matt in finish they are pre mixed paint that comes i custom made to order i then airbrush them on after that i put one coat of zero clear over them all that lets the decals sit nice once decals have been left for 24 hrs i then put over another few coats of clear with airbrush leave for a few days to cure of completely them i polish with normal car wax i us autoglym resin be carful not to rub right through the paint to the primer on the edges once done it gives an amazing shine if you dont have a airbrush you can use 2000 grit wet and dry sand paper to flat the parts you have hand painted but keep the paper wet and use soap then polish paint up after with wax but it is easier with an airbrush
2. i use an airbrush to paint it is well worth the expense you can pick them up quite cheap for a basic one for all over coverage for fine painting you might need to spend a bit more for a good one
3.heat treating the exhaust is where you paint the part the base coat in the exhaust case use like a silver paint then i mask up the weld lines on the exhaust and get my tamiya clear orange /blue and smoke and appply in small areas on the part where the heat builds up when the engine will be running at on all the bends in the pipe it will change the colour to a blue /green effect look a example below
if you are in the uk the place i get my paints from is check with steve if he can send to your area only some postal services will not allow paint to be shipped to that country
