C5-R Corvette Colors
Posted by Laserdude on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 10:48 PM
I am a Corvette enthusiast and I picked up a Corvette C5-R kit and a C6-R kit just recently and I am anxious to get started on them.  Can anyone help me obtain the correct yellow colors for the body?  I think the two are different.  I am looking for the colors for the 2001 Daytona 24 hour winner, the 2001 LeMans winner (I think these two are the same color) and the 2006 LeMans winner.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

I looked up the cars from several sources and it looks like the same shade of yellow to me.

Then entered a search for 2001 Corvette Yellow. It appears that the ultra high performance Corvettes were painted Millennium Yellow that year.To my eyes it looks like the same shade of yellow. As far as I can tell from my reading this was the only shade of yellow offered that year.

That being said, they could have mixed a custom yellow for these cars. You could possibly find some touch-up paint in Millennium Yellow at a Chevrolet dealer and try to match a color close to it. I have noticed at times the color remains the same and they just change the name of the same color.

I know this is not much help, but I will look for more information.

Good Luck and keep us posted on your progress.

The C5R's were Millenium Yellow, and the C6R is Velocity yellow.

There is a difference between the two colors, albeit a slight one. At least to my eye. Smile [:)]

Thanks for the information.  I am aware of the colors from GM on the Corvette.  The C5-R and the C6-R were special racing Corvettes that were built by Pratt and Miller.  I think the colors were special mixes for them.  I have sent them a message but no answer so far.  I was hoping someone here might have already researched this.

Thanks again, Ron

According to the coding that i've seen there isn't an actual change in the base color, but i'm not 100% positive. The millenium paint had a tinted clear coat that was optional. you can take the codes to any automotive paint shop and they can mix it for you depending on which system they use. Granted it probably won't be cheap. But here is a list of codes if you're interested.

Enemeink is correct. Sort of. First, my apologies if I might be misunderstanding your post, enemeink.

The Millenium Yellow is a tint coat, and an optional paint color you paid extra for ($795). In the info I have (somewhere around here! LOL) Its called Millenium Yellow Tintcoat, to be exact. I can't really say for sure for the Velocity Yellow if thats a tintcoat or not. I suspect it is.

Also, enemeink is correct about the automotive paint shop. If you manage to go there with a GM paint code, they'll mix it right up for you.

Good luck and keep us posted. I'd like to see the progress on your kits. I have a Revell snap kit C6 that I want to do up like my 1:1. Maybe it'll give the motivation to start on it!! LOL!!

I think that you're closer than I am.
