An ebay Camaro gets a Second Chance WIP

WOW Man! I can't believe how that "Simple Green" works so well!

This is so weird--I just won a 75 Camaro off ebay for my girlfriend, but had to take it apart and redo the interior in black--she used to drive one just like it, but with a black (not light blue) iterior!

 Nice to see an unwanted model being brought back to life. 

 What exacty is "simple green?" Will it strip anything or only certain types of finishes. Can it strip chrome? And most impotantly can I get it here in Canada?

As for vinyl, I have read that some people use masking tape painted black to simulate a vinyl top.

I'm working on a convertable '69 Camaro myself. My first model since getting back into the hobby last fall. I'll post pics when it is done.

After looking at many of the threads posted, and seeing Doog's Nomad & Roadrunner plus Butz's project I was inspired enough to Drag this thread out of the Tomb and finish it up.  When I left off on this project the chassis was painted with Model Master Enamels, I mixed Gloss Black and Flat Black to get that Chassis Semi Gloss color. Scratch built a fuel pump from a piece of sprue. A piece of copper speaker wire was fabbed into a fuel line. The pre wired distributer was an ebay purchse. I used my modelers knife and a small file to thin down the fan belt to a more realistic thickness. 

On the Body I fabricated two quarter window frames from some .010" styrene. Primered the body with rattle can Krylon Primer, Wet sanded with 1000 & 1200 grit sandpaper. Loaded up the old Aztec Airbrush with Model Master Enamel Paint and painted away. 

So there is where I left off and as it sits for now. Stay Tuned for the Next Update. 

Denis I apoligize for not seeing your question sooner - Simple Green will not strip Chrome finish. (Oven Cleaner like Easy Off will ) I use it for enamel finishes but I have heard it will clean off acrylic in a matter of hours.

Smeagol - Simple Green is a All Purpurse Cleaner that can be found in most Stores in the Household or Automotive Sections . I have heard there is a copycat cleaner sold by wallyworld also, but since I do not shop there I can't tell you if it works the same.

Butz here are the best closeups I can take, any larger and the flaws really jump out

Not sure what angle you were looking for. The Timing Order is correct so it wont Backfire when fired up.....

it looks great so far, but I wanted to put my input about paint removal thing though. 

I use Purple Power to remove paint, it seems to work pretty fast, and it removes chrome, at least it did the one time I forgot and dropped a chrome peice in it ^^;

The only place I've seen it is Dollar General ($6 for a pretty large bottle) but I'm sure other stores carry it too.

Just FYI but for chrome removal I always use oven cleaner. Spray it on the part and close it in a ziplock baggy or equivalent and the chrome literally melts off the part in seconds, not hours.

I've also heard auto brake fluid will remove paints from parts fairly easily, though I haven't tried that one myself.

 Still lookin.. He narrowed it down to two spots.. LOL However I can show ya a project car he and I have been workin on for the last three years and it's almost done..A ground up restoration to boot.

 And to think we bought it from an elderly lady for $4500...

 It aint much..!!! It's a one of 71' Mach 1 Stang...
