Best thing I've found to match in the majority of bodies very snugly is the old music tapes' "boxes". Two of them together on a 90 degree angle, inserted from the bottom of the body makes for a very stable base.

Personally, I like this method where I use a hanger also but at the other end I bend it in a U shape and hang it upside down to dry. Keeps dust away while drying and it is still versatile. I use pieces of duct tape to atach the hanger to the roof of the model.....

I use the " body on the paint can" method, always using double faced tape to hold it on. I also found a lazy-suszn tray at the goodwill store for $1.00 that I put the paint can on to turn it. Amazingly, I don't get paint all over my hands anymore.

I like the coat hanger method. I used it for years with no problem.

I usually just set mine over the top of an aerosol can. Some bodies are a snug fit and don't need any help. If the body is a loose fit, roll up some wide masking tape and stick it to the top of the can and set the body on it. If the body is too tight I use a smaller diameter can. I also wrap the can with plain aluminum foil and fold it over top and bottom. Then the can doesn't have to be empty and I can pull the foil and wrap it again for the next project. That way I don't get loose paint dust in the paint.

Yeh, it's pretty low tech but it's the easiest way I've found to hold a body and turn it as I'm painting. With the can being round it's easy to hold and turn. As long as the body is secure you can turn it any direction you need.

PAINTING THE BODY
Posted by FL157 on Sunday, April 27, 2008 11:30 AM
I am trying to find the best and most effective way to paint the body. I have tried holding the body and painting each side, (and if anybody else has tried this method, you know how well this doesnt work). I have also tried to support the body in a box and paint it that way. If anybody can give me any hints on how you paint your cars bodys please fill me in! Thanks.
